It has been all over the various news programs in the US that the Sandy Hook Promise organization released a new school safety PSA, which got me wondering if the WU sees many mass shootings or does Rager fears or something else keep the number down?

Worry about Ragers, thanks to Humanity First! far out weighs any other kind of crime fears.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

-ponders- Ok, so maybe less harassment of the suspected mutants at the school then in my story, and more at their homes.

Of course, there are shootings, bombings, mass poisonings, as in Real Life. And, again of course, 'a mind controller made me do it' is a favorite excuse

School safety is a great example how very minor things can be inflated into overwhelming problems in the minds of the public. On average, around 20 people (adults included) die annually in American school shootings, and 50 more are injured. For perspective, we lose 30,000 to 40,000 people a year in car accidents. Our schools still have room for improvement, but they're already very safe places. It's easy to see how ragers would steal the limelight from what is basically a non-issue.

Sadly, it is used in the Real World too. I remember a shooter a couple years ago claiming that he had been possessed by... the Uber app!

say this all the time...your kid has a better chance of being hit by lightening or dying in a earthquake (i lived in cali..lol) than getting shot!

I'd rather the money be spent on other training...CPR, Drivers ED, heck even snake bite! Because those ACTUALLY happen a few times years just north of LA in the desert-ty areas!

Media just over-blowing something for easy ratings and CASHING in with it JUST like they say the NRA does...but in the billions$$$$$$$$$!

I would say it's not so much about school shootings in particular, it's about violence in general that became so widespread that invaded spaces that previous generations considered intrinsically "safe" such as schools and places of worship. One puppy making a mess in the back porch is regrettable but not cause for particular concern; a dozen Saint Bernards making messes all over the house are. When you raise the issue, you lead with the big mess in the middle of the living room rug, not with the little one in the laundry room.

I have my own thoughts on causes and how to tackle them, but it's a politically charged issue and I'm not even American, so I won't discuss them.

One Wild Thought: Instead of guns being used, the school shooters and stuff are getting even less regulated Meta-Weaponry, or some demon summoning thing, instead.

But, for that to be a sensible substitution, the ease of access has to match how those people get their guns IRL...

Demon Summoning doesn't always need esoteric ingredients? But I guess if you want a useful one, the costs are too high...

...I mentioned Australian Law, didn't I?

In all seriousness; wouldn't students with the ability to cast spells be more concerninh?
