Thank, been a few years since I read Wellspring.

So how well kept of a secret is it that aliens exist? The idea still seems to be sci-fi to your average person, the revelation of extraterrestrial intelligence doesn't seem to have rocked the world yet, so there must be some amount of active suppression or public counterintel. We didn't see much of that with Tennyo, she is far more likely to be recognized as a cartoon character than a beyond ancient alien superweapon. It would be unnecessary. But what if there was a student with alien heritage and knowledge? Would they be visited by men in black suits and told to keep it on the down low? Would some folks at the Pentagon let the staff know they'd rather some facts not be widely spread?

There's already some forms of this in effect.

Look at the clean-up crew from ARC that appeared during the Ecila stories.

They were cleaning up the side-effects of the inter-dimensional travel.

They had a set of "protocols-to-follow" in place for exactly this sort of issue, so it is not the first time that they have had to deal with this sort of situation. ( The side-comments from the personnel involved showed that similar events took place way more often than was publicly admitted. )

Add in the extra-governmental oversight for the operations between different countries that are nominally at odds with each other, but still co-operating on these issues, and you get some idea of the potential backgrounds for story settings.

The fact that there's a USA-approved, nuclear bomb in the ARC sites, as a measure of last resort, and, you begin to glimpse the underlying levels of international co-operation between the different intelligence agencies.

Translate that via the individual responses of the national agencies, each of which have their own individual different responses, and you can see how they may behave.

Examples could include the Indian government's relationship with the MCO which gives an interesting example of the caste system dynamics, or the UK's approach towards mutants, where it's the low-level xenophobia/racism which comes from the British Empire, versus the military-utility/MOD-research which shows the contrast between acceptance and denigration.

Look at the Morgana stories, where a low-level Gadgeteer with no visible GSD was given a scholarship to one of the UK universities, and will probably be under surveillance for their own protection, as well as receiving contract requests for technology designs for the MOD. The traditionally pragmatic approach used by the UK Civil Service.

If this is how they are dealing with mutants, then there will be equivalent systems set up for extra-terrestials, as well as response plans for dealing with them.

Lots of chewy background settings for narratives. :D

But how does that translate to policy on campus? Is the alumni community considered so small or insular that it would be ignored, or would such a student be asked to keep the origin of certain knowledge to themselves? And would it be a casual advisement by staff or would actual military higher-ups step in and officially declare certain things classified?

Chewy questions. :D

I have no idea. :D

Some of the Whateley staff have security clearances that came from their previous lines of work, Bardue, Mahren, and, Hive, for example.

Presumably the heads of the departments would have met with the Trustee's at least once, so would know of the Sthri via Tywyswyr, but whether that knowledge is passed farther down the line is another question..

Some heroes are already dealing with something similar, The Amazing Three in the Jade stories about babysitting, so it's probably known within the hero/villain information networks, though how that is used is another question.

Also just had another thought.

Due to The Kellith appearing, there's going to be a potential invasion of GOO entities, as they have to test The Kellith's right-to-exist, in the next couple of centuries or so.

If there is any form of alien monitoring system that keeps an eye on the weather, then they would be flashing Inter-Dimensional Storm Warnings, which is possibly why we haven't seen too many tourists recently... :D

Not only that but the Sundering probably left quite a bit of temporospatial fallout. "Danger, unmapped warp potholes in this sector, traverse at your own risk."

Are you including extradimensional entities in this discussion or only those not of this physical world?

Well, we've seen that there doesn't seem to be much secrecy where students with knowledge of extradimensional or spiritual entities are concerned, so I'd say it probably specifically concerns physically extraterrestrial lifeforms. It does seem to be generally known by experts in the respective fields that there are spiritual or extradimensional entities interacting with our world, but even experts in astronomy don't seem to be privy to the whole "intelligent life on other planets confirmed" thing.

The impression I've gotten is that it's not a secret that extraterrestrial life exists, but there's so much homegrown paranormality that most people don't notice or care that some of it's coming from off-world.

Um... you guys are forgetting the fact that aliens actually invaded back in the mid-20th century (ok, it was more of a Viking style raid than an actual attack... but... still)? That Dr. Dad (Diabolik) made and (intentionally) lost an armed space station specific to give the world something to defend us against them if they returned? The general populace knows that "we're not alone"
