CrazyMinh created the topic: Upcoming Judge Dredd TV show
I've been a fan of Judge Dredd for a long time. The first story I remember reading was the brilliant "Judge Dredd: America" story; which I discovered in a 2nd hand bookstore when I was 17. I fell in love with the comics, and I recently rediscovered my old comic collection in the attic of my parent's soon-to-be-sold house. That comic was among them.

Back in 2012, I watched 'Dredd' in cinemas, and was stunned by how well Karl Urban portrayed the titular character, as opposed to Sylvester Stallone's embarrassingly terrible interpretation of the character in the 1995 film 'Judge Dredd'. While said movie performed poorly at the box office- not due to its quality (which surpasses many of the current generation of superhero flicks in terms of tone, writing, and overall quality), but rather due to poor marketing practices from the distributor, the "R" rating, and the general stigma imposed after the failure that was 'Judge Dredd'- it is still one of the best comic-book inspired films I have ever seen, up with 'Avengers: Infinity War' and 'Batman Begins'.

Now, after nearly eight years, Judge Dredd is returning as a live-action TV show funded by Netflix. "Judge Dredd: Mega City One" will be distributed on Netflix sometime in early 2020, and will potentially have Karl Urban returning as Judge Dredd. The show is being produced and co-written by one of the original creators of the source comic, and will be a direct continuation of the movie 'Dredd', with the same depiction of Mega City One. I have high hopes for this show; as 'Judge Dredd' isn't popular enough for them to screw up in the name of money (like they did with the new Star Trek shows and the new Star Wars movies); nor is it obscure enough for it to gain absolutely no traction. Hopefully, this will be a great show. I am trying to avoid giving into the hype, as we all know what happened last time I did that, and how I feel about the outcome of said hype for a certain, unnamed television streaming show ;).
