I don't really know how to start this since my experience online is limited to chat rooms and facebook posts, but when push comes to shove! Start with greetings!

So hello there!

My online name is Sir Nil, I come from the land down under Australia (or the land of death and spiders as some of my friends would call it) and discovered this site only a few months ago, somewhere around March or April, the exact date is a bit fuzzy.

I'm an amateur writer (VERY amateur) who writes for fun, I ended up making friends with one Shiny Rock (who I've been told has an account on this site as well) and he introduced me to Whateley.

The story is kinda funny, at the time I was suffering a slump (curse you writer's block!) and couldn't find a way to progress my only story I've posted online. During that time I decided to try writing something new to see if I could get the creative juices running again, and Shiny Rock quoted Whateley's classification system to me when we were discussing writing a modern superpower fiction together; curious, I searched up Whateley and decided to try reading it to pass the time.

In the end, I became in love with this universe of stories.

I came here for inspiration and I stayed for the awesome writing, never expecting that a piece of work online could have me so hooked. That's whats fun in life! Chaos.

Now before I go all Joker on you let me tell you more about myself.

Currently a college student, I spend time reading web novels online to pass the time, before one day I thought; "Hey, can't I do this too?" and started writing. It's only after a few months of writing that I realised that it wasn't that simple lol.

Right now nothing I write feels like it satisfies me as an author and I ended up seeking quality I could not achieve until creativity decided to die in me. Maybe its because I want to achieve the same level as the awesome authors of this site or even the many others who post their work online or do it the old-fashioned way.

Anyways currently I'm pretty bad, the whole situation is pretty funny in it of itself. If I did not read as much as I did, then I would've never tried my own hand at writing and publishing the end result online, yet it is because I read so much that I began wishing for perfection I could not achieve.

Well enough about my grievances! Let's move onto something else!

In terms of my progress in reading, I'm up to the Upheaval Stories, just finishing 'There's an angel in Father John's basement'.
My favourite character so far from Team Kimba is Sara in all her tentacle-ness. With Jade and Merry tying for 2nd and Chaka bringing up 3rd.

Sara is probably because I'm biased against Australians. (We're all pretty awesome) And she told an elder god to fuck off. (300% Australian) (That percentage doesn't make sense? She's the princess of lust who says she has to follow your numbers)

Jade is probably due to the fact that she has a lot more stories than the other characters, (Sadly, I do wish there were more stories for Fey and Tennyo at the beginning :/ )

Merry because I find her power to be the most intriguing and enjoyed the many twists and mysteries I found within her story and her prosecution based on her powerful ability she was born with spoke to me on a deep level as a child who was relentlessly bullied during youth.

And Chaka because who doesn't like a person who would spend a whole story getting two girls to fuck! (Wait that came out wrong...)
Cough Cough I meant who wouldn't love a girl who helps out so many people!

Well, some more tidbits I have about the universe are:
Wondering what the hell happened on Halloween (Please tell me it gets addressed later, I've determined myself to read based on release order but my faith is built on my own questionable judgement so...)
Conflicted about Reverend Englund who was the source of conflict in Sara's story yet had his rule of cool moment when he and Mr Lodgemen basically told New York 'No'. {You see I have a thing with somewhat mundane characters telling representations of power (e.g. Elritch Gods, Powerful Urban Spirits, Authority, etc etc) to go fuck off.} (Is this amount of swearing allowed here? I know most people generally don't take well to the amount of swearing I do sometimes.)

Other stuff about me is that I enjoy spending lots of time playing online games, specifically League of Legends, roaming the internet for good time wasters, procrastinating (as you may have guessed) and of course reading and writing.

I enjoy online games because I enjoy working together with people to achieve a specific goal. (Would love to get into MMOs but can't find a friend to join me and don't believe the grind curve is worth it.)

I read because, despite all the time I have to waste, I feel like stuff like TV shows, anime, cartoons, movies, all take too much time since opening and closing the separate videos all feel like it takes too much time as opposed to picking up a book and going back to where you left off.

This hasn't of course stopped me from watching some prominent series but I can't really binge video content like I do written content.

And writing is more or less just a natural consequence of reading as much as I do, but unfortunately, I'm pretty bad so...

And that's about it.

Well, I guess I should finish with my name. Sir Nil came from me flipping my actual name and changing some letters to make it flow better, as for why I use a Dabbing Penguin as my icon? Well, penguins are cute and dabbing is as dead a meme as my sense of humour at times.

Sorry about the rambling, I tend to go off on random topics at times.

So yeah, that has been your friendly neighbourhood Penguin with his non-copyrighted 100% not owned my Marvel catchphrase, Sir Nil.

If you can't continue practicing with creative projects, you can always practice on boring ones!

(Pro Tip for many professions: Sign up for the toughest Technical Writing your school offers, then put in the blood and tears to ace it.)

I figure that if his penance were completed, he'd already be dead. Beyond that, he is still around for Year Two.

Yep, the authors did eventually make it back to Halloween '06, so hang in there.

Nice to me you. You might want to introduce yourself to Jack (I hope you can read Auslan when signed using claws) and (later on) his kid brother Adam, and maybe ask Simone and the Lit Chix, but stay away from Fracas. Try not to piss off Essemelle, and what ever you do, don't call KoalaSpider an elf, she hates it when some bratty Sidhe arsehole gets in her face thinking that she owes them something just because she has pointy ears. If she starts Dricking out, run; is she reaches for her energy weapons, duck.

On a more serious note, I was curious as to where in Australia you live; just saying 'Australia' is like saying 'Canada' or 'Brazil', and while plenty of My Feller 'Merkins will ask if you know John and Amanda whom they met while on vacation (because everyone in Oz knows everyone else, right? And they all talk in the same accents as Steve Irwin or Paul Hogan (never mind that those two sounded nothing like each other - regional accents, what regional accents?), and wear khaki shorts and bush hats 24/7...), I know that there are a number of your compatriots around who might know a bit more than that.

Out, damnéd Spot! Bad Doggy!

Hello! I'm from Melbourne since you wanted more context.

And no I don't know Amanda or Jack.

As for accents, I don't think I have one? Though a bunch of people say I have one. (Possibilities ranging from Turkish, Chinese, German, British and it seems like my friends are just naming random places when the topic of my accent comes up but they never seem to include Australian)

I was pretty sure you didn't know Amanda and John, but you never know...

Jack, OTOH, you will get to meet soon enough, given that you've gotten as far as 'Upheaval'. Trust me, you can't miss him, unless he's standing next to his friend in the loud clothes (in which case you'd be to busy losing your breakfast to notice that there's a... well, you'll see).

And as a heads' up for future stories, if you dare peek at it:

Welcome and enjoy!

You might notice many of the veterans watching you over the next little while... they like to see the expressions cross your face as you work your way through the canon. :P

With regards to your own writing... two bits of advice. Read all the things. Keep writing. Those two things will do you more good than any classes or workshops or whatever. Read everything you can get your hands on, different styles and genre, look for the common denominators in the things that you enjoy and that tell the sort of stories you most like to read about. And write often. Pick reasonable goals... don't try to write the great American (Australian) novel on your first go... write short stories, limit your word count and STILL get in all the most important details. It'll teach you to pick the right words and map them into a story with precision and you'll learn to end stories... a skill that many people fail to learn when they start out with episodic or novel sized work. As a result, we end up with lots of things without closure in online writing. But then keep writing.

Write a 1k word story. Set it aside for a little while and then come back to it and decide what you did right and what needs work. Then write the same story, with the goal of improving on the first time. Don't just edit it, but write it again fresh. Do that a couple times. Compare. We forget that long before we wrote stories, we told them... and we told them over and over, sometimes precisely the same but sometimes with different intentions as we taught the young, reminded the old, and otherwise used the wisdom of history to make a point. If you can work out your different ways of making different points with the same story, you'll be able to tell ANY story that you want with the right perspective for your audience to get.

Like reading a lot, writing a lot is a natural part of the process. I doubt there are many authors out there who haven't thrown away far more work than they've ever shared with other readers. It's not uncommon to 'decimate' our own work during the editorial process (in the literal sense of the word, destroying all but a tenth of it... ie reducing 100 pages to 10).. to clear out everything that is unneeded for telling the story at the heart of what you've written.

I'll look forward to you eventually sharing something with us. In the meantime, enjoy the reading! :)

Fate guard you and grant you a Light to brighten your Way.
