Here's 25 to get you started:

    01) Big Lover Is Watching You (Every Breathe You Take)
    02) Boy shoots man, capital punishment awaits (Renegade)
    03) Chap seeks unconventional tribal relationship advice (Witch Doctor Oooh Eee, Oh ah hah ting tang)
    04) Chap meets crossdresser in bar (Lola)

    07) Fred's harem offer road safety advice (Working on the Highway?)
    08) Inciting public disorder? (We're not gonna take it?)
    09) Japanese confectionary's tempting, but fattening (Turning Japanese?)

    15) Nervous girl tests new swimwear (Yellow polka dot bikini)
    16) Nocturnal notes sung by musical spectre (In the dark of the night)
    17) Railway inspired dance craze (Chatanoogia Choo-choo?)
    18) Retaining optimism to the end (Don't worry, be happy)

    20) Schools are dystopian meat grinder factories (The Wall)
    21) Scorned lover was NOT Henry Tudor (Greensleeves)

    23) Spanish song with phonetic English chorus (Lady of Spain?)
    24) Twelve hour rock party (Rock around the clock)
    25) Underwater residence (Octopus' Garden)

    Well there are my guesses

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

  • 02) Boy shoots man, capital punishment awaits - Guys, Guys, Guys. This is clearly Bohemian Rhapsody.
    03) Chap seeks unconventional tribal relationship advice - What EE said
    06) Finnish song popularised by rotating vegetable - What Rose Bunny said
    08) Inciting public disorder? - Far too many to count
    11) Law keeper's lament - Either When a Felon's Not Engaged in His Employment or Javert's Suicide, take your pick.
    13) Memetic song pledges loyalty to girlfriend - Never Gonna Give You Up
    16) Nocturnal notes sung by musical spectre - Music of the Night
    21) Scorned lover was NOT Henry Tudor - What EE said

    Hm... A few more:
    01) frequently parodied patter about general competence
    02) Dancer shows off his tap skills
    03) A disturbing springtime hobby involving avians
    04) thief escapes pursuers in ancient Arabia
    05) Singer won't be forgotten for ages
    06) Heroes refuse to stop flying
    07) Witch ignores politics and physics
    08) Demigod assumes gratitude for accomplishments
    09) Puppets sing as treasure is buried
    10) Inquiry about escaping canines

This one's more obscure, so it's a bonus:
    11) Headware protects user from all harm

  • Looks as though a few were too vague. I'll do a proper reply this evening (when I'm on my computer - while the site's usable on my 'phone, the [lack of] speed on complex pages and limited viewport make copy + paste + edit tedious)

    08) Modify to "Yorkshire band inciting public disorder?"
    18) The singer character is being executed at the time...
    19) The source text is meaningless (or vanity, depending on which version you use) ...
    25) That works, but not what I was thinking of. Ironically by the same band...
    25a) Underwater vehicular residence

Two songs were performed by a diminutive antipodean actress turned singer.
The two Japanese ones are quite obscure - one is 'sung' by an artist whose name translates as "New sound of the future", while the other occupies a unique subgenre of music and tours with a "Kami Band".

Oh, and technically, 20 is "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)",but as the album's "The Wall", I'll count that as a pass.

  • In short, in matters vegetable, animal and mineral, Arcanist Lupus' first clue is the very model of a modern patter song. (With apologies to Major General Stanley, William Gilbert and Sir Arthur Sullivan)

I can't figure out the rest of his entries, but immediately thought of a whole bunch more songs that meet part (but not all) of the criteria, but while I've still got several outstanding clues from the batch of 25 I posted earlier, I'm going to refrain from posting any more for the time being :)

Yep and yep. World is Mine is Hatsune Miku's signature song - and with help from a glass screen and projector, she can ' perform ' with a live band...

As for 09, they're probably the most successful Japanese band you've never heard of - having completed a couple of world tours, opened for Lady Gaga and RHCP, collaborated with Dragonforce and jointly performed with Rob Halford...

I wasn't joking when I said 12 was padded with "la"s - here's the first 8 lines (only the last two syllables contain actual lyrics):
La la la / La la la-la la / La la la / La la la-la la / La la la / La la la-la la / La la la / La la la * *

The number of one of the clues also appears in the title.
I'm surprised no-one's got the musical alphabet yet. What are the first three letters?
There's a condiment among the songs, a bunch of opposites and a video featuring a pilow fight.

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

Not a bad guess, but null0trooper has the right of it.

B01) Headware protects user from all harm
"Billy's Got His Bear Goggles On" by Neal McCoy

Nope. Both more literal and more protective.

    03) A disturbing springtime hobby involving avians
As disturbing as the "Tennessee Bird Walk"?

That'd probably be a matter of opinion.

Correct guesses have been credited above.

I've updated the wording for a couple of my remaining clues to hopefully make them clearer, and added a few new ones.

  • All good songs, null, but none are the ones I'm referencing. 09 is the only one on my list that I've ever heard on a radio station, though 10 may have found its way over the airwaves back in its day, well before I popped into existence. Most of these I discovered either on YouTube or Pandora.

Rose Bunny is all correct (although you misspelled Elger). Mittfh got Clementine, but the other had already been answered.

  • 21) Train ride to Louisana City - could that be City of New Orleans ?

Meanwhile, there are just five left to discover in my 25 - let's see if an additional clue and the release years help:
    07) First recorded and first covered in 1959. The lucky guy is called Fred.
    08) First released in 2004, the group hails from Leeds.
    12) First released in 2001 (UK), 2002 (US). Reached triple platinum sales in the singer's homeland (not UK or US).
    19) First released in 1962, the text it's based on was written c.450-180 BC
    23) First released 2002, sung by three sisters, the chorus is a loose phonetic rendering of part of a 1979 song.

P.S. The OP now has another batch of 25 - questions as well as answers are now spoilered to reduce the apparent size of the post. I take no responsibility for any injuries caused as a result of the musical pun in (30).

You are correct! Now to guess a few of yours:
    27) There was an old lady who swallowed a fly
    38) The rain in Spain falls mainly in the plain?
    39) I miss the rains down in Africa?
    42) We will rock you
    50) "My gallant crew, good morning!" (or "I am the Captain of the Pinafore", depending on what you count as the first line) From HMS Pinafore

So now songs from all three of G&S's most popular musicals have been included! ;)

Yup, all five are correct. I wasn't previously familiar with the City of New Orleans song, but reading the clue, thought the most likely Louisana city was bound to be that one, so plugging "train new orleans" into a search engine and bingo! :)

  • All correct - Scotland The Brave was the one I had in mind, but Loch Lomond fits as well.
The clue to Meghan Trainer's hit was at least partially inspired by the PMJ cover, which extends the metaphor by prominently featuring a double bass.
To everything there is a season - I'm more familiar with the Byrds version.
Jerusalem is a staple of Last Night of the Proms as well as the anthem of the Women's Institutes (WI).

Talking of Last Night of the Proms, let's see who can solve all these finale regulars as a job lot (use of online resources may help, since most of you probably aren't too familiar with the tradition):

    L1) Always travelling with others
L2) Extend thy borders, grow in influence
    L3) Medley of aquatic tunes
L4) Monarch preservation, arranged by homophone
L5) Say farewell to the past
    L6) Take charge of brine

  • Yeah, the problem with 32 is that irritation is subjective. If you don't like repetition, "Why Can't We Be Friends" would fit. If you don't like the Peas, "Where is the Love." If you don't like slow whiny songs, then "Imagine." My own vote would be "Hole in the World" because it's both slow and repetitive ("Why Can't We Be Friends" at least has some energy to it), but that's more whining about the lack of harmony rather than about harmony.

And then there are "Kumbaya" and Barney's "I Love You" and...

  • None of those.

Yes, it is a bit subjective. However, I think that you'll find a great deal of agreement where this song is concerned.

  • Ack, I edited while you were typing. What about "I Love You" from Barney? It's not really a world harmony song, but it's the closest thing to universally annoying that I can think of. If I've heard anything worse, I must be repressing it.

I really did not intend for this one to be so difficult. Clearly you all need to visit Disneyland more. :D

I do need to get to Disneyland again one of these years, if nothing else I want to see the new Hatbox Ghost. But I don't think It's a Small World is really that hated a song, certainly compared to some of the other choices. Like we said, subjective.

Your extra hints were great, though... I feel like an idiot for missing those.

Well, I wouldn't exactly call it well-liked . It's also extremely well known the whole world over.
