  • Way back in 2009 I started a Whateley/Tenchi crossover fanfic. I got two 'episodes' done of the below listed plan... and then the combination of life and technical issues kinda knocked it all for a loop. Thing is, I actually think the two eps are some of my best writing, so I'm posting them out there again to be shared, and maybe (just maybe) I can be inspired to either pick this up again or perhaps find others who would like to pick up one of the episodes and write it to fit the overall plan below:

Many many thanks go to my fellow Whateley members (at the time) MitchelTF and Anvildude for the awesome feedback that made them as good as they are. MitchelTF even got 'co-author' credit on the second episode

    Story Synopsis

“You know the carnival comes and goes. If you wait for a while it always comes back for you.”
    -Ryoko (Tenchi Universe Ep. 26)

Jade needs more practice in the simulators to work out the best methods for using the J-Team. Tennyo agrees to work with her. Meanwhile one of the devisors, a Tenchi Muyo fan has been tinkering with a new devise that acts as a dimensional bridge. To test his devise he has hooked it up to the one of the simulators so he can view the worlds he reaches. The devise malfunctions and crosslinks to the simulator that Tennyo and Jade are using. Their sim-suits act as scanners and they are physically drawn into a Tenchi Universe dimension.
From Jade and Tennyo's perspective, everything and everyone are real, not animated. To others looking in via the monitors, Tennyo and Jade now appear animated, along with the Tenchi characters. Also, from Jade and Tennyo's perspective, Tenchi has a Feyesq glammour, which is why the girls are so gaga over him.
Events pick up immediately after the Tenchi Universe episode 'No Need for a Conclusion'. Jade and Tennyo struggle to figure out how to get home while the rest of Team Kimba and friends try to figure out how to get them home. (Chaka and Lancer want to get into the sim and help.) When Nahgi shows up once more to try to capture Ryoko, the space pirate decides having a double is too good an opportunity to pass up. She tricks Nahgi into taking Tennyo in for the bounty (believing she has Ryoko).
When Jade goes ballistic on Ryoko, team Tenchi and the J-Team set off to rescue Tennyo with Ryoko's reluctant assistance. Meanwhile, in the Whateley world, Team Kimba has cornered the devisor who caused the problem. While he has not figured out how to bring Tennyo and Jade back he has determined how to recreate the incident that sent them there. Chaka, Lancer and Fey suit up to enter the alternate universe and assist in Tennyo's rescue, leaving Ayla and Chou and a very irate Gunny Bardue to keep the pressure up on the devisor to fix the problem. Before the Kimbas leave, he does have one idea. He can create a receiver on this end but someone on the other end will have to create a transmitter to tune to it. He gives the information to Fey to give Washu who has to build the devise on her side.
Evenutally, Tennyo is rescued and all return to Tenchi's home where Washu completes the portal. After a test, Team Kimba somewhat reluctantly returns home.
    Special Notes

    Three whispered names.

“Spirit of memory, I live! I am Tokimi.” = Nimsolimil

“Wave of life, I live! I am Tsunami.” = Traruilaral

“Binding need of creation, I live! I am Washu.” = Caeluanna

And from a forgotten amulet hastily stuffed in the former Djinn's pocket, a personality matrix screamed silently. “I am the Scourge and I too shall live!”

And the light imploded into the darkness.
    The Structure

I envision the story as a series of episodes, much like the TV series. Each 'chapter' should be a complete story in and of itself building toward the eventual conclusion. The Tenchi Universe series ran to 26 episodes, as a loose guide we can consider 26 chapters. Total time-line should not exceed 9-12 days. The incident should take place over the break between winter and spring terms.

Episodes 1-5 should take no more than 2 actual days.
Episode 1 (Here we go again)establishes the setup, introduces Jade and Tennyo to Tenchi's world and vice-versa.
Episode 2 (Here we go with feelings)explores the effect of Tenchi's glammour on Tennyo and Jade (Tennyo in particular) this also includes Ryoko and Ayeka's reactions.
Episodes 3-5 (Here we go ________) (first night, morning, lunch w/the gang)Life in the Tenchiverse. Around 4 or 5 we start seeing Team Kimba watching at the sim and seeing what they are doing and how they are reacting.
Episode 6 (Here we go with bounty hunters) Enter Naghi and Ryoko's big idea.
Episode 7 (Here we go kidnapped) Naghi takes Tennyo, convinced she's Ryoko.
Episode 8 (Here we go ballistic) Hi, my name's Jade, this is Shroud, this is Jinn. WE are your DEMISE!
Episode 9 (Here we go dropping in) Chaka, Fey and Hank arrive.
Episode 10 (Here we go across the stars) Tennyo wakes up on Kin-Oki. Naghi and Tennyo argue about who Tennyo is.
Episode 11 (Here we go to the rescue) Off we go into the wild black yonder.
Episodes 12 – 20 (Here we go________) Chasing Nahgi and Tennyo through the Galaxy
Episode 21 (Here we go cashing in) Nahgi collects her bounty
Episode 22 (Here we go feeding the sharks) Team Kimba tries to work within the system to release Tennyo.
Episode 23 (Here we go staging a jailbreak) Ryoko demonstrates her usefulness
Episode 24 (Here we go running from the hounds) The escapees lead a merry chase
Episode 25 (Here we go away!) Aunghadhail has a plan
Episode 26 (Here we go home) sniffles and scuffed shoes. Jade and Sasami bawlfest!
