  • I'm going to post this here because there seems to be some confusion about methods to contact site administration because there isn't a CLICK ON THIS BUTTON TO EMAIL THE SITE button somewhere. And from time to time I find little angry messages in the most obscure places... like the shout box. Or in the comments of a story or backstory piece that I haven't looked at since setting it up in the first place. Not on the front page news articles that I post twice a week. And I'm pretty sure that registrations (denied or not) still send out emails from the site... which means, all you would have to do is reply to the message you got Ok, to be fair, a lot of places have turned their default mailer into a trash bin for incoming mail... but still.

If you MUST have an email address, you can generally contact me using either my name: KristinDarken (no space) or WhateleyAdmin (also, no space) from this site server (whateleyacademy.net).

Most people should have enough email savvy to put the above together into useful combinations. I'm not going to put it together any more 'usefully' for you than that, though... for the same reason that there's no email button or place on the site that flat out gives my email address. I don't have any desire to have to go through hundreds of spam messages a day to make sure there isn't a legitimate email. I don't get paid enough for that at my real job... let alone here. Also, don't expect high speed reactions... again, I don't get paid enough at my day job to give 'on-call' reaction times to email... let alone here.

  • I just wanted to remind everyone that THIS post is here to tell people how to reach me. It is NOT an alert email... I visit the site a couple times a day just to be certain things are 'functioning' and even if it isn't, I'm not a desk jockey who can repair things immediately even if its down. It's almost always going to have to wait until the end of day before I can try to do anything. The email is even 'worse' ... in the sense that I don't check it every day.

If there is a KNOWN issue, I will update the info page at status.whateleyacademy.net and whateleystatus.wisdomsprice.com (same page, different domains) with what I know. A means of contacting me is provided THERE also, which is useful if you can't see these forums at all. I recommend bookmarking one or both URLs for the status page.

If you are a solid, regular member of the community and you would like a more direct means of connecting to me 'on the spot' / immediately (understanding that just because you tell me something is wrong, doesn't mean I can drop everything and get to fixing it - there's a price tag for that level of commitment), I may be willing to give you my personal mail/phone

NOTE: For the first part of the running of the new version of the site, Warren has been backing me up with some sys admin stuff; mainly regarding investigation and approval/declining users. For the last several months and moving forward, I'm on my own handling this stuff. I'm not spending as much time on this as Warren did, most likely... but I'm more inclined to just hitting 'decline' if something looks hinky. That might mean I'm declining perfectly valid registrations. On the bright side, it should still keep us spammer free.

But if you ARE registering ... things you can do to avoid looking 'hinky' are making sure you use a realistic 'personal' login name. Making sure your email address doesn't come from a mailing server that commonly provides for spam mailers, similarly making sure your IP address is dedicated to private and not proxy use (most proxies will get denied because of their use by mail spammers). And if you happen to get declined, don't take it personal, send an email and as if you can try again or let us know who you are in a way that reassures us you aren't going to abuse/spam the site. Be patient... The last time I went through the list, there were 46 registrations. you can imagine the people who registered the next day had to wait a little while before I was willing to do any more. :P
