  • Something that has been bugging me since which ever story it is came out; I get that the Earth was essentially a dead world essence wise when Grizz and her crew came into orbit and the vacuum sucked the essence/life out of the elves.

So did the craft have essence reserves like our space craft have oxygen tanks or magitek that works like Sunny and converts solar energy to essence? I wouldn't expect there wouldn't be much free essence in the void.

  • It could have been like one of those enormous ships you see in some sci-fi, the ones with huge arboretums and hydroponics bays, to produce oxygen. If they had a sufficiently large area like that, it could produce oxygen, essence, and foodstuffs.

  • It's kind of a grey area as to what's been said since only part of it's been shared.

Was the spaceship the equivalent to a World Tree... collecting, storing and transferring the essence to support the life around it? Was there a huge crystal at the heart of it that stored an immense amount of essence? Did they have a "feed stock" of some sort to convert to essence as needed?

Maybe Grizzly will tell us the story sometime...

  • I think the important part of the equation here is that Earth wasn't just absent Essence.... Earth was a place where great works had been put in place over the ages and then been 'broken' in ways that made stopped Essence from being produced. There was no Essence, that's true. But there was still a great DEMAND for Essence. And so, when Grizzly's ship... whether it was a living ship capable of generating Essence and sustaining those within it or whether the ship merely had means of storing Essence to sustain those who traveled with in... came into reach of the former home world, those ancient things suddenly found Essence within reach... and took it.

But yes... for the Sidhe to travel the stars, they have to carry with them certain resources. And like humans needing to carry air and water with them into the void, technology can branch in two common ways... it can be stored, cleansed, recycled, and reused until depleted... or it can be generated, cleansed, recycled, and reused until the resources to fuel the generation of it are depleted. Given sufficient time and research, the answer is probably that both options are available... and the ratio of which is used is determined by ship type and trip planning.

  • Or a ship with a very particular type of tree at its center?

Or a ship made from a tree? :P

Jade will build a new one, starting from a cutting of Nikki's tree. I'm sure of it.

I postulated this very reference in the period immediately following the release of The Kodiak Conspiracy, thinking that the ship might have been the means for a World Tree to have returned to earth and be hidden somewhere...

Of course, more recently Kayda found the seed that Nikki planted. I wonder if this was already planned out more-or-less back when Kodiak was conspiring?

Seriously, thank you for your time and effort. It is appreciated.

  • Thanks Kristian, that answer is very helpful and also pretty much along the lines of what I was thinking. Poor Diar... so much torture and experimentation performed by a journeyman dark (Goo?) mage, all to let the little Pony Girl keep her pet elf...

Good! In a way that has absolutely nothing to do with copyright infringement or intellectual property piracy! Not that that has anything to do with anything!! Just say'n...
