Question Allergies and Avatars

Could Anna be allergic to squirels or Danny/ica to cats?
The most common cat Allergy (that I know of) comes from the dander, would that make him allergic to his own skin? What about hair? Saliva (yes that is a thing)?
Question came to me while reading What's New, Pussycat [/u.
My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

Could it happen? Why not? The spirit wouldn't know the Avatar was allergic to it before they started to bond. IF the Avatar knew, the spirit might learn that during manifestation and fix it. But maybe the Avatar doesn't know either. Now... why do you think it matters?Jarjaross wrote: Can an Avatar be allergic to the animal spirit they are bonded to?

Generally, allergies to an animal type are a factor of fur or dander. Very few Avatar-spirit bonds are going to result in the mutant actually producing fur or dander genetically matching that of their spirit. Even if it LOOKS like it, the Avatar is still human. Unless you have a case like Bova, it's pretty unlikely that the DNA is going to change enough to trigger an allergy of that type. But... if you do? You end up like people who are allergic to their own dander or hair. It DOES happen... and its mostly able to be handled with either meds or sufficient air ionization/filtration.
Fate guard you and grant you a Light to brighten your Way.

Those were kinda my thoughts on having a cat spirit like Danny.
Thanks for the world building info Kristen it is always nice to know more about the world.

But they are so cute and fluffy! … dear lord I sound like Jade.
Anyway, follow up question, do humans inherit any allergies from the spirits? Like how most animals are Loctose intolerant, or dogs can't eat Chocolate or Cinnamon.

Well, probably not. For something like the fact that chocolate can be toxic to dogs, the avatar would need to assume the digestive system of the spirit inhabiting it. Normally that's not an issue, I'm sure, ffor example, that Aquerna can sit and have a hamburger if she wants. (third time, I think I've paralleled Danny to Anna in the last few minutes)... that being said, since Danny is a shifter, in kitty girl form he might take on some of those qualities, in full cat form, certainly all of them. ... Hmm... does that mean Catnip + fully feline Danny = hilarity ensues?Jarjaross wrote: Anyway, follow up question, do humans inherit any allergies from the spirits? Humans easily metabolize and excrete theobromine and caffeine. Dogs don't. I can't picture a dog spirit wanting to cause unnecessary harm to its host.
Also, lactose intolerance is the result of not having working copies of the genes that allow for lactase persistence into adulthood. No/insufficient lactase means that lactose does not get broken down into its constituent sugars until gut bacteria have had time to play. (It's not a fun time.) Allergies have nothing to do with it, although any mammal's milk can be an allergen.

It maybe that someone like Danny or Peccary, where the spirit is making major physical changes to the Avatar's body may get some of that.
Remember that Aquerna's diet changed because of her Spirit. Razorback's too.

No sympathy for Tia, who can't even enjoy an In-N-Out burger anymore?Valentine wrote: It maybe that someone like Danny or Peccary, where the spirit is making major physical changes to the Avatar's body may get some of that.

At least the saving grace is that Sanda and Monica can still enjoy a Whataburger.

Not really.
I must be one of the few NW Europeans with no capacity to digest lactose at all;
Mayonnaise and similar emulsions make me vomit; and,
I have a religious prohibition against eating pork and pork products.
But people routinely get offended that I won't eat dishes or meals featuring those things.

When you feel the urge to be sick do so all over them.
They'll never offer you dairy products again.

The lactose intolerance takes a while to build up to pain and gastric dumping.
Mayo's the one that bounces, and the one that fast food places will still slap onto a burger, or chicken sandwich after ordering one without.
I won't say the idea hasn't been tempting.

Well that takes all the fun out of it.
