. That's not true, but that's a little hard to see beyond the limits of the characters' viewpoints when they all run in similar problems.
People are forgetting that the universe WU lives in was originally described as one that FEARS AND HATES mutants. Possibly because most of the stories are now in the mutant-friendly area of the school, or because most of the recent new first-generation mutant PoV characters have friends and families that actually support their new mutantancy. But go back to the first stories, and look how common it was for the new mutant to be hated. Humanity First, MCO and the KoP are big players because of how widespread the hate is. The average first generation mutant is one that gets disowned by their parents and thrown out onto the street if they aren't the victim of honor-based killing first. Even those whose parents love them enough to support them are still being disowned and hunted by their friends, schoolmates, and neighbours, or went through some kind of drama that could close them off to the world and make them take a hit to the old alignment meter.
How many of the origin stories feature baselines bullying them?
Trying to kill them?
Abductions for some reason, mostly being a 'test subject' for experimentation?
Being rejected by their baseline friends?
Being assaulted?
Being forced to live on the streets, going to the church for help, captured by the CIA, experimented on and then attempted assassination that got hir moved to an insane asylum before being freed only to be corrupted and then split into twins? On top of already having been in a cult of anti-mutant child-killers? (Okay, Merry may have been a bit OTT, but you get the point.)
Grown adults often develop hardened personalities that are cold and selfish after going through these events. The 'bullies' in these stories are actually the expected statistical normal. "Well-adjusted people" that want everyone to get along, without becoming 'heroes' are the odd ones out.
Edit: For clarity, I don't mean the first generation as in 2006 vs 2016. I mean mutants whose parents are not also mutants.
I didn't want to clutter up the Absinthe discussion with this, so I started a new thread...
While we have limited origins we can compare some.
Of the Kimba's Billie is the only second generation mutant.
Jade's treatment by her family doesn't change (well it's likely her father never figured it out)
Toni, is accepted by her family, and two close friends and her dojo
Hank isn't accepted by his brother, and other stuff is messed up by magical influences
Nikki is accepted by her family and her friends are a mixture.
Chou it isn't covered
Ayla is persecuted by her parents, and a mixture of her siblings. The only old friend she has contact with doesn't seem to care.
Others with no or very little family problems
Belle, Steve and Lanie, Kamuro, Hazmat, MegaDeath, Bugs, Vox, Kayda and Danny, Alyss's family (special circumstances), Jericho, Razorback and Reinforce (most of Australia?), Connor Edwards, Antenna, Diz, Molly, Alicia, Tisiphone
Others with major family problems
Diamondback and Anomaly, Sphere, Eldritch and Miranda,
Others with minor family problems
Aquerna (her family isn't happy, but has not disowned her, turned over to the MCO, etc), Marty (but that seems more about the TG stuff), Puppet, Reach (was "disowned" but his Aunt took him in, not turned over to MCO),
Mutants with community problems
Kayda, Charge (although she isn't first gen), Connor Edwards,
Nitro ends up with family problems due to Tisiphone's GSD.
Folder is disowned due to his gender swap.
I've likely left off a lot, mostly those with no family problems, all the Golds for example.
The Bad Seeds don't qualify as their parents are part of the Mutant community.
Any additions to the list of those with family/community problems?
How many of the origin stories feature baselines bullying them? Fey, Kayda, Danny, Hank, Charge
Trying to kill them? Kayda, Hank(?), Diamondback*, Sphere (MCO), Pegasus (H1)
Abductions for some reason, mostly being a 'test subject' for experimentation? Ayla (repeatedly), Whisper# (Government), Roulette#, Charge#, Envy#, Glow#, Mischief#, Sphere (MCO), Vamp#
Being rejected by their baseline friends? (mixture, Kayda, Danny, Fey, Charge, Jinx, )
Being assaulted? Kayda, Danny, Fey, Diamondback*, Ayla, Charge,
* Doesn't really have an origin story, but the story is out there.
# Problems caused by other mutants.
Anomaly ran before anything could be done to her.

Steve and Lanie,
Granted it was not lamp shaded much, primarily because of how she is and other methods, but Lanie lost all of her 'normal' friends in her subdivision. This was part of the reasons Steve sees her crying on the dock, her original 'girl posse' that she grew up with all told her they couldn't see her any more.

At the other end of the spectrum we have Tansy, whose father is both terrified she'll be outed, yet is not above whoring her out because the opportunity to get over is too hard to resist. I can't imagine Tansy is the only mutant abused by her parents to take advantage of her abilities.
I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

This bears repeating, as many abused family members (including those whose family members are addicts of one kind or another) become VERY good at hiding their physical and emotional injuries just to survive. The "Golden Kids", not the least because they'll get no sympathy for their problems given their perceived Privilege, are just as likely to be hurting as deeply as any underdog.
Those rejected by their local community may be able to walk away from the situation with enough family (of birth or of choice) support. However, that doesn't mean they'll want to be dwelling on what they've lost along the way.

Sliver Ghost was attacked by her stepfather and run out of her home, though that was due to the sex change rather than being a mutant.Valentine wrote: Any additions to the list of those with family/community problems?
Imp didn't quite get the Harry Potter treatment, but it was close enough to convince her to run away forever. Then the persecution started.
Pinball's family was fine with her, but her community was not. H1 burned her house down.
Garafena's family was cool, but she got harassed by H1, including a burning H on the lawn and possibly an attempted kidnapping.
Victor (from A Good Man) had a hostile brother, though this may have been more due to the accident than anti-mutant prejudice.

Somehow, I think her biological mother still might feel unwelcome on Parents Day.

Most of the stuff Circuit went through didn't have anything to do with their family. But he did attend murdercamp as a child, where he got to see his uncle lynch his brother. And the only reason he didn't have to deal with his family himself is because Dr. Palm bombed their house. Hooray?

Her biological mother would be at risk of getting torn open by her daughter.

That was all mentioned in the original post, I didn't see a need to repeat everything that happened there.

Assuming that she got there before Lady Astarte, Eldritch, Chief Delarose, or anyone of a few dozen other people on campus.

Sure... he didn't 'intend' to kill anyone who destroy buildings. But he was already heading down that path even before he was pushed.
Exactly the reason people are afraid of mutants.
