Question Red Monks vs. White Monks

Chewing over ideas form Dorms 3.

- According to the "reliable" narration by Mephisto, one source of the mutants that are manifesting now, is the medical experiments that were performed during WWII.

- Mutant manifestations are caused by the Meta-Gene Complex.

- We know that the Red Monks have a reliable method for tracing at least one form of mutant, Avatars, so it's not unreasonable to think that they will have been looking for other methods, and other flavours of expression of the MGC.

- If the Red Monks are trying to accurately model reality, then their models will have to include some aspects of reality that is outside the mainstream Overton Window.

- This would include, the existence of the Deep Ones, how magic works in relation to the Solomonic Contract, the original history of The Sundering, knowledge of Class X entities, and, operational details of the GOO's, plus anything else that i have missed.

- This would also include some form of access to the hidden histories that each of these races/species/religions are concealing.

eg. While Michael Waites's Complicity is the Book of Kellith, there will have been some forms of prophecy that the Deep Ones were using for themselves, which were written before Michael Waties' mother was born. This is reflected in the way that Michael Waites' mother was reared.

- if all of these fit together, then one potential melody that is compatible with the incomplete information that we have, is the idea that Mephisto himself was the person that facilitated the initial transfers of Dr.Demento's research into the military research system.

- This fits with the descriptions of Mephisto providing reports on his own projects/organisations. He would have been reporting his own work as the work of someone else.

eg. One potential narrative that would fit would be the story of how using one of his many invented persona's, he became Dr. Demento's lawyer, and organised negotiations with the DoD.

- If he was doing this under the instructions of the Red Monks, then potentially, the Red Monks made use of WWII as a way of trying to get as many activations of the MGC as possible, so as to have a range of potential recruits for an army that would be used to defend the planet from the GOO's, when they turn up to test the Kellith's right-to-exist.

This pattern of narrative evolved from the description of the "one-man show based on arrhythmic cowbell virtuoso improv."

I went to one performance in the 90's called "Visions of Japan: Sounds of Tokyo."

I was a 24hour long piece where they had recorded sounds from different parts of Tokyo over the space of 24hours, and were playing it through close-focus pin-point loudspeakers that were laid out in an aural map of the Tokyo.

One constant that was there was the bells from the main temple in the middle of Tokyo. They rang every hour, day and night, which gave a bass line to the rhythm of the rush hour traffic, and the evening entertainment districts.

Another arty piece that i came across was the "Sonata for violin and Piano" by Bach.

Bach only wrote the violin part.

The piano part would be implicit, and would only exist inside the listener's heads, and only that if they were knowledge-able about the Sonata Form's of music structure.

After watching and listening to naive and enthusiastic teenage renditions of various forms of art, i can quite see the staff from the music department listening to the concept of an avant-garde-style performance of a rhythmic version of Bach's Sonata, where the performer only played one instrument, and the rest of the music would be created by the audience, and agreeing enthusiastically that it was a great idea.

This sort of music-for-musicians-gig works well when you have an audience that already knows the forms.

If you don't know the forms then you would attend the performance of a "one-man show based on arrhythmic cowbell virtuoso improv," and wonder what the hell you were listening to...

And arguably, the way i am trying to "fill in the blanks" of the world-building that the CC are working on, is another example of the same pattern of techniques, allbeith transferred to a literary medium.
