  • If a spirit's domain is weakened, does the spirit also weaken???

Say all the bison were to go extinct. Does that mean that Tatanaka would 'die'???

    Hypothetical. Bison are really cool.

That might depend on how much magical energy they directly derive from it, and whether it's also the entity's hallow.

That would be very unlikely, as Tatanka is the White Buffalo associated with the White Buffalo Calf Woman. Even if all the bison were exterminated, the Lakota would remember. If the peoples who know and live the stories die out, there could be a billion buffalo on the Plains, but he'd have no reason to return to the material world.

(He's one of the reasons Metro has as little to do with Pejuta as possible, not that she'd lower herself to associate with a freshman anyway :) )

  • Also if they had other meanings/positions in the past. Such as grizzly or Kodiak. Then you have ones like thunderbird I don't think even if the people's were wiped out him or coyote fade. Maybe interact with others less but fade no. They are kinda primal forces and concepts. Thunderbird I feel would be fine as long as there were storms and lighting. And coyote who knows what's up with him. Her like the biggest bag of weird and I do what I want outside of Loki and Odin lol.

  • Myths are strong things. Lions have been extinct in Asia for... how long? A really long time, I think... and they are still part of the local mythology.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • That too. And sometimes things are in local myths that were never in the area. They are remembered from when the people lived elsewhere. There are a few examples of that in Egyptian mythos and a few other places where they clearly have things that are x animal but that animal never existed there and they have been there for thousands of years.

There's one contemporary school of magical thought that holds that the gods are just psychic constructs created through centuries of belief from their worshippers.

It also really pisses the gods off when they hear people talking about this theory, You'd be annoyed too, if people were trying to convince you that you were just a figment of someone else's imagination...

(Apart from Coyote who just laughs, as he knows that nothing really exists anyway... B))

  • Sounds like you have been reading gunnerkrig court lol.

Coyote there claims both that people created him with their belief and that he created everything. Maintains the greatest lie he ever told is that he exists.
