Hey everyone!!! So, my latest WhatIf character is a cyberpath called Cypher. My problem is that the wiki isn't very clear on how cyberpathy works, nor are the merry stories easy to quickly glean the relevant information from. By 'not easy' I mean for finding the absolutely relevant pieces of information, and then extrapolating on that.
The reason why I put this here instead of in the workshop is that I thought it would be interesting to have a discussion on the intricacies of Technopathy or Cyberpathy (whichever you prefer). I know that there was a potentially helpful article on this on the old forums, but....yeah...
So, I have a few questions about Cyberpathy:
1. How is it presented on a MID. Now, I did look at the pages for Cyberkitty, Blue, Petra, CB & Interface, but all of them were MID'less, and thus without any relevant info. In addition, the article on technopathy does not list the MID abbreviation nor whether the power is a subtype on anything. It does say it isn't a subtype of telepaths, so does that mean it has it's own classification???
2. How exactly does the power work??? In the 'Riddle of Sappho' stories, the way the power works seems quite simular to the Matrix from Shadowrun, and how deckers do their job in it. So does the power work in a functionally and aesthetically identical/simular way to the way Technomancers/Otaku work in Shadowrun??? Or is it more like the user is visualising firewalls and barriers in a way that makes sense to them??
3. What are the limitations and boundaries on the power??? Is there some sort of rating that measures how well a cyberpath can interface with machines??? Is there a scale of how strong the firewalls they breach can be before they become insurmountable??? Is this awareness passive or active???
4. Does the power only work for wireless-enabled machines and computers, or just for any machine with a microprocessor in the immediate vicinity, or both???

One thing that's worth mentioning, is that so far the known Cyberpath's, have all been major targets as their skill-set is very useful in a military context.
This would provide a context of conflict, which would give a good background opportunity for world-building.
Chewy.

1. Technopathy is an Esper variant, and is listed as ESP on an MID. See Whisper.
2. My impression, and this is solely my impression, is that the Technopath controls how the "World" is seen.
3. Standard WU ratings are 1-7. Again my ideas here a 1 would be limited to simple electronic devices with a limited number of functions, like a remote to turn a light on or off. Then up through more complex devices like calculators, multifunction remotes, computers, the internet and beyond.
4. Whisper, if you haven't read the story you should, hacks a multifunction remote, computers, the internet. She needs physical contact, or some other connection. Pahelee apparently currently uses the signal from her Microsoft ThinkPad, or at least she thinks she does.
