  • I'm sure the actual rules vary from state to state and counrty by country, but what might be the rule of thumb regarding foster carwe mutant kids?

I am a caffeine heathen; I prefer the waters of the mountain over the juice of the bean. Keep the Dews coming and no one will be hurt.

Yes it would be state by state, but recall most activation events occur in puberty and teenage years. According to the stats I found, the average age of a foster kid is 8 and they stay in custody for 2 years. Less than 6% are in custody for five years or more, so most kids likely to have an activation even are out of the system by then. I'd say the event is so statistically rare there aren't rules in place for it. The chance of kid being in custody that long while also one of the very rare mutants is pretty long odds.

Still, might make for an interesting story.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

  • Jade was. Well, if you want to be technical and stuff, she activated during the event in which led to her father losing guardianship, and she was put in foster care afterwards. But she kept quiet about being a mutant at first (as well as about being a transgirl), so it only came up when she had already set up things with Whateley.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • Would the stress of being in the foster care system cause an increase in the chances that teenagers become mutants? Another possible source of mutants in foster care is new mutants being rejected be there parents. :(

  • 2 things happen when a mutant hits the foster care system in almost all cases

1: An administrative shitshow. they aren't equipped to handle any such thing.

2: Lost child. Either a runaway (Most likely), or a turn-over to the MCO (not as likely as many would think), or an exploitive opportunist will fabricate a "family member" identity to take custody of the child to exploit their talents. "Community groups" like the triangle will often try to arrange "Foster care" for the child in question.

The least likely outcome is a mutant teenager being picked up by a foster parent who is functionally able to understand and care for them.
