  • So, I was rereading 'The Book of Jobe', and I realised that Jobe had to have been doing bioengineering prior to manifestation. The wiki says:

Whateley Academy Wiki wrote: Beyond his devisor ability, Jobe is a bona-fide genius: he started accumulating bio-patents when he was nine, before he even manifested as a mutant.

Does this mean that nonspecific mutation traits (i.e. increased IQ as a result of changes to the brain; but not psychic powers and the like) can be passed down to children of mutants without the need for them to manifest? With my (albiet limited) knowledge of genetics, any trait present in the DNA of a individual can be passed down at random through genetic reproduction.

I get there's such a thing as savants. Hell, I know a guy who's doing law school, and he's 17. But nine years old, several patents, has been pulled in front of the UN, and is also the son of a brilliant gadgeteer? I'd eat my metaphorical hat if there wasn't even remotely a genetic connection there.

Is this a thing, or am I reading too much into it?

...and don't forget that Ol' daddy isn't very fond of the fleshy sciences. He's a tech-head, not a gene-wrangler. It's possible that he could have got a minion to do it. The question is 'what would be his motivation', other than ensuring his child was smarter than smart.

To be honest, if Gizmatic did something to increase Jobe's intellect, it'd be more in the ballpark that Jobe has some sort of implant than genetic tinkering.

Or, he called in a solid from Dr. Dad to ensure that his progeny were free of genetic damage - this would be the Karedonian Imperial line - and that at least one of his attempts would be carried to term.

  • Don't forget he's also friendly with Dr. DNA.

  • Or... maybe Jobe iswas Gizmatic's clone? Having a similar brain does not mean he's going to have similar interests. He's a genius like Dad/Original Copy, but focused it in another area.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • He would not be the only one to have pre-manifestation of mutant traits. Don't forget loophole
