  • I have seen the term be used every now and then, especially in Bek's stories so I was wondering... What are super-sorcerers?! Is it a term used to describe people who have access to more Essence than the average baseline mage does?

In a world of super-powers, super-villains, super-heroes, super-strength, super-soldiers, super-secret assassins, super-speed, super-thugs, super-suit, super-powered henchbeings, super-babes, etc., might it be possible that "super-sorceror" only means that the person being talked about is just in the super-hero/villain business, and not much more?

  • I had assumed that too, but a little while ago Bek mentioned super-sorcerors having some sort of advantage over baseline mages and there being a one-sided enmity (I can't quote it by word). So I thought to ask.

  • 'Super-Sorcerer' is an umbrella term for those magic users who run around throwing bolts of bishru and fireballs and levitating and doing a ton of really blatant crap right off the cuff, despite the fact that they're in the prime of their lives, while 'normal' wizards, warlocks and witches have to study and practice until they're gray and work in groups, and work up a sweat for hours to do so much as lift a needle. Also, 'super-sorcerers' tend to ignore the Rule of Balance (though they're not immune to it, no matter what they think), and stir up a s__t-ton of crap that regular mages really don't want to have to cope with.

If it needs saying, regular magic users resent the hell out of super-sorcerers.

  • So technically the term applies to all mages who have access to vast Essence reserves, have the knowledge and training to use these AND like to show it off by using flashy spells? Lol

  • Please note that the term Super-Sorcerer does not apply to Faerie Mages :D As their magic works on a slightly different system.

I plan on illustrating this more in Scald-Crow 3, but the basics are this: Faerie Mages do not passively collect essence or energy like a typical mutant. Fae while being made of essence, don't gather it outside of Faerie itself. Most Siobhra aka, Noble Fae, have access to their family's inheritance, a ton of energy built up over time.

Since they do not passively collect essence, magi need other sources. Maeve wears reliquaries to help gather magic into herself. Bess often uses hexbags and charms, and this places her handily at the beck and call of the balance.

  • So Faerie mages use enchantments/reliquaries to gather Essence rather than gathering the freely floating Essence within their bodies like most Wizards and baseline mages do(?

That reminds me... I never quite understood when Scaldcrow said her domains were Fate, War, and Life. I thought those were just the magic types she was skilled (Well, beings are nearly all-powerful within their domains) at using but is there anything else to it?

A rule of thumb is that some Faeries are gods, but not all gods are faeries. Fae, even the smallest ones, are bound to a domain. This done via an agreement made between their lineage and the domain in question. Domains are usually elemental in nature, but this can also bleed related domains. Grainne's body produces a lot of heat as a side-effect of her being aligned with Summer Fae, but since her Pact-Domain (the ones she are bonded to) is War her body has bonuses to fight in war. A standard Siobhra is stronger, faster, and more physical dangerous than a human. The trade off is their allergic to synthetic materials, and iron can kill them. Grainne's increased strength of Ex4 or Greater is because of her War Domain.

Morgan's ability to sense danger, and threats is connected to her Fate Domain, which in of itself is facet of the Wyrd and or the Dao.

    Not even the bowling ball...

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

  • Technically Grainne's a Summer Fae, and the Pact-Domains are places her ancestors bonded themselves to for magical power. What elements do these domains fall under? (Since she's a Summer Faerie... I assume fire?) Can she harness the energy she gets from these Domains as an Essence-source?

So... I'm assuming the Wiz - 1 rating comes from the mutant rather than the spirit, since Faeries cannot collect energy the way human mages can.

Oh lovely, you need to join discord and tag me I discuss this stuff all the tiiiiime.

Grainne's Domains aren't necessarily elemental. SOME have elemental natures and secondary effects. War historically had a season in many cultures which ran during the summer or when people weren't needed to work farms. But there are War pacted fae in the Unseelie Court (a collection of Fae aligned to Winter). Fate aka the Wyrd is essentially the Dao, its a Power a thing that is part of the fabric of reality. So being tied to fate she has abilities tied to reading and interpreting it. This is why Morgan can sense and identify different targets. That plus previous knowledge as she regains her strength.

The Wiz 1 rating is like how Fay is tagged even though she's not really a mutant, but a Sidhe. Most Faeries have some basic magical nature, their made of essence in their incorporeal selves. And when manifested (forming a corporeal body using essence) they have to burn away their existing strength without an existing body OR without a constant source of power aka a Hallow.

    For Discord mine is @ShadowedSin#3936
