  • Duse the Whateley Verse have its own version of a hellmouth?

I'm trying to think of a place for a student to come from that the Mystic Arts department feels they need to keep a close eye on them, and I don't want to use Innsmouth or Dunwich.

I am a caffeine heathen; I prefer the waters of the mountain over the juice of the bean. Keep the Dews coming and no one will be hurt.

  • Why would the MA dept want to keep an eye on them just because they come from a Hellmouth?
    Were they responsible for it?

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

    Nah, they aren't responsible.
But beings magical, being steeped in it since birth, and having a few other necromantic-ish abilities might.

  • I'd say from a faerie point of view, yes, there is some sort of open tear into Faerie. Its just not safe to use.

  • There are extremist anti-faerie entities, one of them is tied to the Anglican Church.

  • In a very real sense, Whateley Academy itself is on the top of the equivalent of a Hellmouth - it is in a region filled with Class X areas, some of which do indeed lead directly (or indirectly) to a Hell of one type or another. The tunnel seen in Jade 3 is an example of such a place. One of the reasons the school was chosen for the mutant school project back in the 1960s was because the staff were some of those best able to keep a lid on the otherworldly horrors.

Thats a rather mean way to describe the students!
(although SO believable from a teacher's pov!)

Well, Sarah comes to mind, being a baby GOO and all. Definitely something you want to (try) keep an eye on.

Also, Mrs Carson in one story mentions that the Academy is built on top of N'Kai and suggests that some of the deepest tunnels may in fact connect to the upper shafts of that place (and are sealed off and heavily warded for that reason).
Anything that comes out of N'kai is in-universe seriously bad news (but just maybe is not quite sanity, brain and body melting enough to be unsurvivable)

In the Chtulu mythos that city may be the closest to hell, which makes Whately Academy itself akin to the hellmouth you are looking for

  • What about Florida? I mean, between Horatio Caine's plot-distorting powers and whatever Florida Man has been up to last week, I'm beginning to think Steve Gerber was on to something when he placed a dimensional nexus in the middle of the Everglades...

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

Already had mermaid hailing from Florida planned. Would have been third or fourth generation Weeki Wachee Mermaid, but ended up with a real tail...
