Nikki's use of Sidhe Essence techniques was flawed in the sense that the specific spells she got from Aung were based on an Earth with functional World Trees and a healthy magical ecosystem (living world, ley lines that aren't easily depleted, Essence pools more like oceans than puddles). And as an inexperienced, untrained Sidhe mage, she was just using the spells she had in her head.

A Sidhe spellcaster who understood the nature of the Earth post-Sundering and with the knowledge to reconstruct the spells, could fairly easily adapt to the circumstances and change how they draw... and where they draw from. Harder, requiring more gathering time or drawing from out-world sources, limiting draw to stored resources instead of natural ones, and so on.

But yes, anyone know knowing (or caring) what they were doing with the Essence of a world could easily destroy it. Overdrawing Fire from a Fire world would be just as catastrophic as overdrawing raw or Life essence from post-Sundering Earth.
