  • Hey guys, It's Crazy Minh. I've just asked Dr. Bender to help write a introduction to the RPG from a in-universe perspective, but I'd like to extend a invitation to other original timeline authors. If there is anyone from that particular group of canon authors (or the Gen twoers if we get desperate) interested in writing such a thing, please post below. Preferablly, I'd like to have something with Team Kimba playing the game as if a devisor or gadgeteer had asked them to playtest it. It would serve as a nice fluffy introduction to the game, and get the players invested in the universe through the characters we all grew to love. Thanks, and if you have any questions, please post below.

  • Individual authors will, of course, make their own decisions based on their own availability of time and interest... but I'm going to recommend to you something that we have told a number of past projects. What you are asking for can potentially be a large investment of effort into a project run by an outside manager that we could, in theory, do on our own officially and completely canon. When you step forward and say... on day two or three of having revealed an interest in doing this thing... that you would like us to support you, I have to somewhat cynically say "why?"

We have no knowledge of your skill in game development. You have shown no outline or initial development. Some of your comments lead me to believe you haven't even read the full canon, which will make it more difficult for you to include valuable references that impact the world view and style. You're talking right now about writing introductions and flavor text... you have at least six months of work establishing your core mechanics ahead of you before you need any such content.

Show us that what you're doing is WORTH backing. Then ask for help.

Fate guard you and grant you a Light to brighten your Way.

  • OK. In answer to that, I can give you several responses. Firstly, I HAVE read the canon, from the beginning of the 1st gen to the end of Ayla and the Mad Scientist stories, and I've read up to 'The Road to whateley' in gen 2. I'm not going to deny or make up anything about that. Nor for anything else with these responses. I have a bit of experience in game development, back in High School I developed a huge mod to D&D 3rd Edition that I then gave to other gaming groups in my area. It was the same game system, yet with massive, massive changes to how the game was run, and how major mechanics worked. I printed copies for about two years before people lost interest and stopped asking for copies. I've also GM'd games of Shadowrun, D&D 5e, and Deadlands with varying success (I'm more of a player than a game master). In terms of outline, the team is yet to develop anything yet. We are having a meeting in just under two hours to discuss how we want to do things, and if you want I can publish our current fruit of our efforts to a seperate thread for evaluation. In terms of doing it now, I just was asking for if anyone was interested in doing it later down the road. I wasn't giving a time limit, or any sort of major rush on it. I wanted to get people interested, and I'm sorry if I again confused people.

As for why you should be supporting a non-canon effort done by someone who only expressed interest in the project three weeks ago, and really only joined the community on this site less than 6 months ago, I have no answer. I do have a question however: if this was a project you could have done yourselves, would you have been interested and willing to undertake such a massive collaborative project alongside writing stories, managing this site, living your everyday life, and dealing with miscellaneous challenges if I hadn't bought the project to light??? I'll leave the answer to that to you. I apologise again for my untethered eagerness.

  • Quick note, I'm still working my way through the existing canon. It's taken me three years to get on it. I do have other things to do in my spare time, but this is great bunch of stories, and I've really only picked up my sparse reading in the last year. So I don't expect to finish for another 6 months at the current pace. That leaves Gen 2 left. I will do my research when writing bits into the RPG, but I can't do anything right now, other than read and write.

This sort of makes my point, really.

We've had people come to use with game, webcomic, and other project ideas in the past. Mostly just asking for approval to start something using the IP. Occasionally asking for additional canon support. You'll notice that none of those projects appear on the site anywhere. That's because, despite the fervor of the original idea; the actual project ideas were... very large, involved, and in need of far more work than just getting the canon authors to support them with flavor text.

Get a month or two of work under your belt, show us how its coming together... and you may find us more supportive. :) Remember, WE have been working on this project for thirteen or fourteen years... so far. Enthusiasm is fun... but endurance is what makes it happen. :P

    This!

Every real act of creativity is a marathon, and not a sprint.

Hugh Cook said it best, when he wrote that Acts of Creation are more difficult than Acts of Destruction, as they require an Active Love of something that cannot be perceived, yet requires constant nourishing in order to be.
