Question Jade's foster parents (The Lasasters)

I only just now realized that Jade's foster parents must be worried sick about her.

She applied for a school as Jared (as far as they knew). Got into said school. Then (as far as her foster parents know) Jared vanished into the ether.

Jared's father is let out of (or escapes, I'm not sure) prison before christmas I'm pretty sure (I think that that story line happens before combat finals) and Jade never comes home for christmas. Or summer vactation.

Do they think she has run away, or possibly that her father got to her? Have they sent out a massive man hunt?

Also I am trying to remember their names but I keep just picturing two men. Was it such a non-chalant gay couple that I didn't notice at the time? If so why would Jade break all contact? I know not everyone thinks all LGBT people should protect one another but she should have at least broached the topic at some point.

Nope one of them goes by Mrs. Lasater so the couple contains one man and one women. I just imagined them both as men for some reason.

Maybe not. If I remember well Jade's origin story, the Lasaters treated her fairly well but there was not much affection going on -- being foster parents were more like a job. When Jade went to Whateley, she was transferred from the Kansas Child Services system to the Massachusetts system, and the school took over the foster parenting role. So their responsibility was ended. They wouldn't refuse to see Jared if he came to visit, but they probably don't think much about him either.

My feeling with Jade (and someone from the original authors might correct this), in Jade's case, and quite a few other students cases where they are basically state wards, Whateley's In Loco Parentis is probably upgraded to the point that Whateley is basically the institution that has legal guardianship over them, like an orphanage would.

i.e. if Jade wants to go to friends houses for Summer Break, it's basically Whateley that she needs to go to and get permissions, and Whateley that organises it with the parents of the children she is staying with, nobody else.

Jade's family situation is much more complex than anyone thinks.

First, or rather last, Thuban spent a bit of effort to erase the existence of Jared Reilley.
Second Mr. Lodgeman had the permission for Jade to stay rooming with Tennyo signed by Jade's father Mr. Sinclair.

So theoretically somewhere out there is a Mr. Sinclair that is Jade's "legal" parent.

I wonder if they will ever meet.
