Question Search Results; Just the titles or just the first few lines setting?

  • Is it possible to give a Searcher the option of having said search display only the titles of the post that it finds? I just did a search for some of Insane Hiker's stuff and he's got some long long posts creating a wall of text before i find the title I want.

  • You can narrow down your searches to searching the titles only and a few other things by using the 'Search' option in the forum menu bar.

  • I tend to default to using Google search instead of the sites built in search feature when I'm having problems with the sites own search results... just put in an additional search parameter of "site:whateleyacademy.net". (without quotation marks)

    For Example: site:whateleyacademy.net Fomorian
results in a link to Faolan 2 in the Forums.

I don't want a way to narrow things down better, I want to be able to check the results list without having to skim past 5-10 Word pages worth of text to get to the next result.

  • I've turned on the site 'smart search' (its in the Stories zone menu, bottom of the left sidebar menu). Such things can be done in it.

It's not normally on because the indexer tends to hang up on new content saves because our site has too much content for it to operate quickly (it's designed for 1k word news articles kept for a month before being archived - as opposed to 10 million words of content, plus forums all still actively used). We technically need a separate search engine, but that will quickly boost the cost of sustaining the site.

However, I CAN turn it on for use while leaving the indexer off... which means new content is not automatically added to it. But if I do an index update every few weeks or once a month... it'll work for 'most' searches with the more complex options... for "I think this was from two weeks ago" searches, you'll have to rely on the basic search.

Fate guard you and grant you a Light to brighten your Way.
