  • I'd been hoping to post a review for "Wings over Bedlam" in the hopes of prompting a few other stories to get posted over here (I would particularly like to see all of Anathema posted where it is accessible). However, although the forum says anyone can create a thread, I couldn't find a new topic button like there is on this forum. The same applied when I checked the other moderated forums in that section.

Has that function not been implemented yet?

To clarify, that review would go in:
Forum >Grading and Evaluation> Evaluations: Library Releases

  • The choice of whether to allow formal reviews belongs to each author. Once they start a topic for their story, any registered member can post a review... though ALL review posts will be moderated, in the sense that no post will be visible until a moderator gives it the go ahead. Any post that isn't an actual review will be turned down. If you want to post a review on Bek's story, ask Bek if she's willing to accept them... if so, all she has to do is post an empty thread/topic started post.

  • So in other words, they function like the Project Discussion section:

Posting rules: Only Fan fiction authors and staff may create threads but all registered members can post replies.

rather than as is indicated in the blurb for the Evaluations sections:

Posting rules: Any registered member may create or post to a thread in this section, however ALL posts are held for moderation prior to being made public. Posts that are not reviews will be removed. As will those that attack the author. Remember, you are reviewing/critiquing the story, not the person who created it.

Sounds fine to me, and actually makes more sense, possibly the blurb should be changed when it is convenient.

  • So I guess Isodecan should PM Bek and ask for her to create the thread?

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • That would be the logical thing to do, but it probably won't happen for awhile as we don't have any other review examples. When I thought I could do it myself, it was one thing, having to get a real author involved raises the expectations a little.

That's kinda the idea. The section says "formal" reviews.

  • Not review per say, but are any of the blurbs describing the stories stored anywhere? Or once they where taken off the front page they went by-by?

Not sure how it should be done, but as a convenience for new readers having blurbs for the stories (rather then just titles) would be nice.

  • Mostly the blurbs are on the author page for anything that had an official blurb. Sometimes there wasn't a blurb and I just made up something. Other times I wasn't feeling as creative and didn't create a blurb, just listed the story. It's entirely possible to do a 'short description' lead in at the top of articles, similar to how things are handled on BCTS (where everything above the 'break' code shows on the front page). However, 'doing' that will make the process of transferring over stories more time consuming. Atm, I'd like to get all the stories moved first. Then worry about things like associated jacket/blurb text. We won't lose it... I have a local copy of all the web site html/data and Warren has a copy too... so even if the old site is turned off outright, we have access to it.

The main thing we don't have 'easy' access to is old forums stuff. THAT all has to be dug out of data files, some of which has formatting and user name/timestamps... some of which is just message text.
