Question A WARNING TO ANY VPN USERS

    • So, about ten minutes ago, I tried to log onto the site while my Windscribe VPN app was open and running. The site listed me as a spambot. As a friendly piece of advice to anyone who finds themselves in the same situ, just turn off your VPN, and things should be fine.

    Apologies to Kristin, who I rather rashly emailed while panicking about a possible ban I might have incurred for some reason. I honestly didn't think to check that my VPN had been left on overnight.

    • Depending on where I 'home' for my VPN connection, the same thing has happened to me. It's less sensitive than it used to be, but it can still bounce out out of the site. Like Minh said, if you have a VPN on and you bounce from the site, either reconnect your VPN to another home and try again, or shut it off. Some work okay, some don't, and depending on your VPN provider, it's kind of random which VPN servers will bounce and which won't.

    • That will depend entirely on whether people use a given network or region for a lot of spambot sends in a given period of time. Most of our spam protection is in our registration process... but yes, if your IP address / network shows up as a presence on the StopForumSpam site, it will trip an alert here when you try to login and get you blocked. I 'can' manually override those... but as they are on a timer and I'm not sitting at a desk playing admin at any point in my day; you're more likely to clear automatically than get through to me and get reset.
