  • I decided to work on what I thought might be a failed hard drive since I have a USB device that lets me connect to just about any hard drive. So I tore into the case for my Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus to eliminate that usb drive controller. And low and behold I found that the hard drive contained in there was a Seagate and not a Maxtor.

  • Maxtor was purchased by Seagate in 2006 although Maxtor continued as a brand until 2009. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maxtor . This kind of situation occurs in many cases when manufacturers purchase each other. With OEM equipment en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Original_equipment_manufacturer , finding the brand name on the inside being different than the one on the outside is normal.
