  • Can you just imagine the problems it's work gangs would have? You know, all those places around where "we'll just let the cons clean that up".

Ah, but that would come under the heading of "cruel and unusual punishment" and SCOTUS would ban it.

BUT - I could imagine this conversation:
One older Con: "Trust me, you do NOT want to try to escape from yoru work detail?"
new Con: "Oh yeah? They've only got ONE old, fat guard on us, and the area is forested. Easy to run and hide."
Old con: "Suit yourself, but have you ever been hunted by a panther, or a pack of wolves, or a bear?" new guy's eyes widen. "Last new guy that thought he could escape - well, they found what was left of him two months later. Wasn't pretty. But suit yourself. You wanna go for it, don't let us stop you!"
New con takes off. Old con goes to guard. "Schultzie, the new guy took off. Can you have the warden ask the tribe to take it easy on this guy? It's his first time, you know. Just give him a hella scare?"

I'm surprised that Ayla hasn't visited the hotel in pilgrimage. I mean... it's Bretton Woods , right?

But ARC is not below the hotel. ARC is canonically in Whitefield, while the hotel is some 20km away, southeast of Carroll.

  • If Snakey wasn't so busy hunting shamans, it could have had a field day... :D

Of course, elsewhere in NH there's the small municipality of Roxbury, which I assume is where in the Whateleyverse (but not IRL!) there's a rather large detention facility (or was - I can't remember how much damage was caused in the breakout).

That Roxbury is near Boston, not in NH.

And it says something about how that neighborhood is viewed by the City Elders of Boston, that they put up a superpowered holding facility in that 'hood, not further out in the boonies, which Massachusetts has its fair share of.

    From Birthday Brawl 13:

Fey looked up and down the street. The two limos were just pulling out, and Chaka was in the back of one of them, giving her a thumbs-up. She said, “We’ll do better without a limo. I know how to get to Roxbury a lot faster. I’ll use Tennyo. It worked great in Monday’s sim.”

Lancer asked, “Will it work for real?”

“I don’t see why not,” Fey shrugged.

Ayla said, “You do know Roxbury Prison isn’t in Roxbury anymore?”

Tennyo said, “Umm, I was just gonna go where you told me.”

Fey closed her eyes and focused. A sphere of green light surrounded the four teenagers. It seemed to solidify until it looked like a green glass ball. Then, as Tennyo lifted off the ground, it rose swiftly into the air.

    and

Sam asked, “And do you know where to go?”

    Elaine’s face fell. “Umm, Roxbury?”

    “No.”

Elaine frowned, “But they said Roxbury Prison!”

Sam explained, “Roxbury Prison hasn’t been in Roxbury since 1987, when they built the new prisons.”

Doc said, “But it’ll be on Google Maps, and…”

    It's not in Roxbury either.

Besides it's in Maryland anyway. www.dpscs.state.md.us/locations/rci.shtml

  • But it is still within the Boston metro area, or more precisely, within the Boston PD jurisdiction -- since Boston PD was called in, and Captain Tilly requested the help of Team Kimba -- who are only deputized by the Boston PD, not by Massachusetts state police.

Police response can get weird in the US, I don't know about other nations. I once witnessed 7 different police departments all searching for the same guy in about an eight square mile area. I believe there was an eighth, but I didn't see any of their cars.

Someone shot a cop, and four cities, county, state, and university cars responded. I think a fifth city sent someone too.

So the Boston PD may be under an agreement to respond in time of need, even if Robury Prison is a significant distance from the city.

True... but in the story IIRC the cops they used for the infiltration of the prison were city because their presence wasn't unusual at the prison..

Where I am, the only time I ever saw anything other than city police cars was when the city police were under serious investigation for wrongdoing. ( 5* members of VCPD convicted of murder after the investigation ) 6 bodies found in shallow graves in Stanley Park.
And while there are two other city police departments in the region, all the other uniforms and vehicles I saw were RCMP ( Royal Canadian mounted Police, aka Rotten Carrots Moldy Potatoes ) I think the other police departments officers were seconded into the RCMP for the investigation.

I do know that there is now a permanent task force with officers from every police force in Canada set up to investigate claims against any of them. Those from that particular force are not allowed to be a part of the investigation.

    * At the time of the crimes and investigation all VCPD were paired up, so the 6th got away with it.

Stupidity is a capitol offense, a summary not indictable one.
