Question How active had the forums been before?

  • My question is.... the number of people who actively participate in the forums.

Given that I've never been able to fully view the forums, due to both glitch and registration. How active is it or is it mostly being conducted in the background by those who are trying to keep Whateley from imploding upon itself by over active mutants who have nothing more to do than to develop death rays, plot world domination and trying to figure out the best recourse in getting out of either a history or english test.

What is - was. What was - is.

  • It definitely feels a little bit more active at the moment. My guess is that that is at least in part because of the excitement of having new forums, and the pent up enthusiasm from not having forums for a few weeks, and it will eventually die down a little, but the transfer has encouraged some lurkers to come out of the woodwork, so it may stay more active than before.

  • We, the members can make sure they are more active, by being active.

it gets harder to lurk if there is a flow of chatter to draw you into the light.

and with the 'new' discussion setup for canon stories, characters and fanfics there is a good source of commentary to keep the forums active.

  • We had almost 900 accounts registered prior to the site outage. But that was accumulation over 8 years or so, and many had been inactive for more than a year. There is, currently, a little more activity than there was pre-outage; as mentioned above, probably a combination of newness and being able to participate again after a month away. We actually had been getting more and more activity over the past year, due to some advertisement and getting the word out on similar sites that we exist. Once we get the old content moved over, I hope to run another series of ads on other sites with superheroes (web comics mostly) and story archives, to bolster what we lost and continue the forward momentum. That may be especially effective if we can get the fan fiction section actively working towards regular publication on top of the canon releases (which should increase as we get Gen 2 visible).

I'll be able to give you more accurate info after we've been running again for a few weeks. I do run Google Analytics as part of the site operations to keep an eye out for flow problems or areas that are showing unusual traffic.

Speaking of old content, are you going to get the rest of Silver Linings moved from where is was hidden in the old forums to part of the First Gen Content page?

  • I suppose they eventually will -- they seem to be working from both ends towards the middle (the earliest half-dozen or so stories were reposted, and also roughly the ones released in 2015). But it could take a while.

Anyway, reposting Silver Linings would be an EXCELLENT opportunity to do some (very minor) revising on the chapter numbering and such, which currently is rather... confusing. Perhaps explicitly break it into two or three separate stories (it *seems* to be broken into Silver Linings and Silver Linings 2, but the breakpoint is odd at best). I mean, links from the wiki will have to be fixed anyway, so why not?

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.
