Long before I became a huge fan of Trans-gender fiction, I was an avid fan of human to animal transformation story where the changed person is the protagonists.
A little less rare in the main stream than Tran-gender, it's still hard to find.
'The Abandoned', about a boy that turns into a kitten was formative, and I've always loved the idea of changing in a cat ever since.

So, a story about a man who turns into a two hundred pound Cougar is sure to attract my intention. throw in some urban fantasy, and great characters, like a pyromaniac squirrel and you have me hooked.
I know that there is at least one human to cat changling in the Whateley universe, I think, I do so hope that someone expands on her? story.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

should mention that while I'm a furry fan, this is not about that. I'm talking about a full animal transformation, while maintaining a human intellect. The ability to talk would be just about the only outward indication that the protagonist is not human.
In some ways Razorback fits this criteria, though I prefer fur over scales. Specist of me I know.
While I never encountered it in a story, a favorite transformation concept for me was human to Tiger. In many ways combining human intelligence with the physical ability of a tiger gives you an individual who has super powers.
The character in this book, finds that as a Cougar he can leap a ten foot fence without any real effort, and scale a three story store sign with very little. Can fun so fast and has reactions so quick, that no human could possibly react in time.
Good thing he's of the mild mannered variety.

I don't know if it's quite the same thing, but Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels series features a were-tiger from the third book onward, and she has a couple of novellas devoted to her. She's one of my favorite characters in the series.

Hey, there's a whole tribe of Medawihla weres in hiking distance of Whateley. And one of its members (well, adopted member), Paige Donner, rooms in Hawthorne.
There's also Sted, who can shift into cabbit and pegasus forms.

I've got my fingers crossed that we'll see lots of Danny material, just not his furry form, but full on Cougar form eventually.

That's Andrea. She's also a character with novellas in the series, although she was introduced in the second book, not the third. I'm talking about Dali, who is nearsighted to the point of near blindness, races cars, turns into a giant white Indonesian tiger, is vegetarian, faints at the sight of blood, and is generally a contradiction in terms. Dali's stories are Magic Dreams and Magic Steals.

What's it worth for me to write some Danny POV stories, where we DO get to see Wihinape and cougar?
Actually, you don't have to bribe me - I have a story in the outline stage - once I finish Kayda 10 and a couple of others. But it'll star Danny! And boy, is HE going to have fun

Actually, I had a piece of artwork commissioned that shows Kayda, Danny, and Debra in dream-space, with the spirit of Tatanka and Wihinape about. It's a really nice work - and I have a feeling some are going to get drool on their keyboards when they see Wihinape
As soon as I get the final, I'll post it.
