  • I hope all our Whateley-ites in Texas are well and safe.

I had the joy of cowering in a Florida house/during the last time a Cat 4 hurricane made landfall in the US and Texas is a bit less prepared for such things than Florida. Nothing quite like getting slammed with as much rainfall in a couple days as you normally get over the course of a full year.... to show you just how poorly rivers and watershed areas are set up to handle high water flow.

  • This is what we get for allowing Elrod to do Deviser-y experiments in his basement, which is probably a swimming pool right now.

I hope everyone is safe there in Texas.

  • I was in Houston for school, but I managed to get out right before they started flooding on a regular basis. (Like, literally a week before the first major flood came in 2015)

I've still got a lot of friends and relatives there, but they mostly seem to be reporting safety and dryness. One family holed up in a different location because their house has flooded before, but other than that I've heard of no problems. Although my cousins have water up to their bottom step, which is rather unnerving.

  • We who are still there are hanging in there, though long term supplies are the question.
I have lived through multiple floods and multiple hurricanes and this is the longest lasting one yet.

  • Ya, ironically, with all the rain and flood... clean water supplies tend to be one of the most difficult parts of dealing with disasters like this.

  • The funny thing with where I am north-west of Downtown Houston, most people are actually on Private Wells vs City Water.
But that also means we are on Private Septic Systems and with all this rain we are having to minimize water usage not due to supply but due to the Septic/Waste system ability to cope.
So a supply of drinking water is not my issue at this time. Our Well pump had been acting up I guess getting it fixed when we did was good timing for that.
In fact I am more surprised I have Power at all from the lines, Normally every bad rain with wind I loose power but I have not lost it once so far.
We had our Propane tank toped off Thursday before the storm in case we were going to have to run off our generator fora prolonged period of time again.
