Question A rather unpleasant discovery

  • I am sad to say that I am currently the member of this site with the least karma, with a grand total of -5. Out of 856 people, I am the biggest villian. Hell yeah!!!

On a serious note, this is actually quite alarming. Seriously people, am I really that horrible??? I mean, I'm socially awkward, but I'm pretty sure none of you are ex's, and I'm pretty sure I haven't committed genocide against a demographic in my two and a bit decades on this blue marble in space. So what gives???

  • Well, until you mentioned it I had plumb forgotten that there even was such a thing, since it's hidden behind the "more" button. My guess is that only a small, statistically insignificant minority bother to upvote or downvote other people's karma. And I have no idea how to access an user list ranked by karma, not that I'm particularly eager to. My own karma is +4, which means that among the people who bother to use the tool, there are four more who actively like me than who actively dislike me, which means... nothing, I guess? It's a statistical blip.

The "thanks received" count, while still not really meaning that much, is probably a better estimate of how people like you because it's more visible and therefore more used.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • And your Karma count has changed...

  • No. I have not found anything you've written that has genuinely upset me to the point that I'd say you're an asshole (TM). A little incorrect? Sure. So are a lot of us. Sometimes a bit controversial? Yeah. So what?

Don't sweat it. a significantly larger percentage (HUGELY larger) of dissatisfied people complain when compared to satisfied or happy people will offer praise or upvotes.
