  • Thursday evening around 4:30 PM local time I placed an online order with a company that does same day shipping. I just got a tracking notice on my order. Checking out the tracking, It lists the following items.

Nov 13 11:29 PM Shipment information sent
Nov 13 11:54 PM Picked up
Nov 14 12:56 AM Arrived at FedEx location (I checked this at 12:30 AM)
Nov 14 1:12 AM Left FedEx origin location
Nov 14 5:10 AM Arrived FedEx location (that would be the local facility that delivers to me)

Apparently FedEx is now using TARDIS' for retrieving shipping info.

  • 25 minutes from telling fedex to them picking up, just before midnight? I'm freaking amazed.
pickup is normally only monday through friday 8:30 am to 5:30 pm local time, at least in BC.

  • Three points:
    1. Big customers (like, say, the company Baby Valentine bought stuff from) probably get round-the-clock service from FedEx.
    2. The less-than-half-an-hour-in-the-future timestamp discrepancy is probably just a timezone issue: BV checked the shipping at 12:30 local time, but it was already 1:30 or even 2:30 wherever the shipping was being processed.
    3. You bought it Thursday afternoon, but they only sent shipping information to FedEx on Friday late night? And that counts as "same-day shipping?"

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

nope,it is not the 24+ hours you are thinking of. date rollover at midnight, so 7.5 hours after purchase, giving a time of 12:30 AM Friday, at 8 hours after purchase. ( roughly )
    that is same day service.

I ran across the time/date issue trying to find a single sale on my employer's sales printout whih is why I know how the timing seems off that way.

  • The timeline BV posted mentions the first item at:

    Nov 13 11:29 PM;

that's late night Friday, no matter which way you cut it. The only way I can make it fit is if, perhaps, the company is in Japan time or something like that.

  • A little clarity:

I placed the order Friday evening. I checked the tracking info at 12:30 AM Saturday morning, that was roughly 25 minutes before the 12:56 AM time stamp.

The reason why I put Thursday down, was because I normally have Friday off, and was confused on the day of the week. A problem when you work 10 PM to 6 AM. That should read Friday.
