Hey Bek!!!
I attempted purchasing a copy of your novel skeleton crew on Amazon Kindle out of pure interest. However, even though I have payed the full price of $3.06, the book has not arrived on my Kindle account. After about three weeks of back-and-forth, the Kindle tech assistant recommended I talk with the author (after I offhandedly mentioned I have a account on the same site that you write on occasionally) to see if you have a ePub copy stored locally on your computer. We (me and the Kindle tech support) tried everything from repurchasing the story (a failed attempt which Kindle refunded) to the tech looking if they could 'rip' the book from the store (apparently they don't have permission to do that). Kindle offered to refund my purchase, but I declined as I really want to read the book, and they thought that asking you might as well be given a shot. I've been really annoyed at how the download seems to be broken (they've been having this issue with a few books on the site, so if this is the first you're hearing of it, don't kill the messenger) since it has been bugging me for ages since I saw mention of it on the wiki. I'm a avid Sci Fi reader, and I thought that I'd give the book a shot, and maybe post a review of this site for others. If it's as good as your writings on this site, it'd definitely be a good read.
I'm posting this publicly because I'm not sure whether you regularly log into your account (you having been inactive for quite a while), and thus did not want to risk having to wait a long time till you either logged into your account, or somehow didn't notice the '1 new message' below your user avatar. Don't f**king question my thought process: I've got the flu, and I'm posting this late at night here in Oz.
I know it's probably too much to ask. But if you can do something, I'd really appreciate it.
Regards:
Crazy Minh.

I'm not sure how much Bek can do. From the credits listed on Amazon, this story appears to have been published by Sapphire (of Sapphire's Place fame), which makes sense since that's where the story was originally posted. (It's not there anymore, Sapphire has been removing the free stories when she turns them into ebooks...). So you might want to talk to Sapphire instead.
Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

Yeah, sorry Minh, but I think you should just ask for your money back. I'm not finding it anywhere. It's been years, and it probably just got lost when I changed computers.
If you really want to read the story, ask Sapphire, and use my name.

Hey, Bek, if you want it, I have a copy from the old Sapphire's days. You may have your choice of the raw version as downloaded from Sapphires, bad HTML and all, and my formatted-to-hell-and-back version that I did to make it easier to keep track of all the "text inserts". Just tell me in PM where to send them.

Sorry, I meant that it should be posted in the whateley non-canon library since the amazon site cannot sell it.

I bought it from Amazon awhile ago and had no problems downloading it. I don't know what changed since then.

Unfortunately, in a lot of cases, authors have signed exclusivity rights over to Amazon as part of the publishing contract. If you don't, you get a much smaller portion of the funds. And Amazon does web searches for document fragments to find out if the material is available elsewhere online. The requirement is generally that you cannot offer it somewhere else for less money than you charge at Amazon. I tried it (with Glass) without joining Select / signing the exclusivity rules... they do a LOT less to market you and make your story visible to customers that way. And you can only sell to paying customers... so you don't benefit from the book devouring monster that is hardcore readers who subscribe to Unlimited.
or... short form... I don't think Bek can put it up here without Amazon refusing to sell it. And the problem with downloads on Kindle right now has little to do with specific books, I've had several fail in the last month or two. The app is buggy... and until they find and fix the problem, its going to keep affecting stories.

Thank you for the clarification. This solution that I proposed would only work if the problem is book specific. Since it is not, then it will only be fixed when the app is fixed. I imagine that the resolution of the app problem would be swift since this problem would be hitting hard at Amazon’s bottomline.
