Question Now back after 20 years...

In 2019, we should expect to see a TV show based on the 1999 movie 'Galaxy Quest'. For those unfortunate enough not to have seen this great film, the story is of a washed up group of TV actors who have been stuck doing convention appearances after their star-trek-esque TV show was cancelled 20 years beforehand. They are then abducted by aliens who have recieved broadcasts of the show from space, and have (falsely believing the show to be a documentary) modelled their entire society after the TV show. Now, the actors must take command of their once-fictional vessel and save a entire species.
BUT WE'RE GETTING A F**KING TV SHOW OF GALAXY QUEST!!! NEXT YEAR!!! TWENTY YEARS AFTER THE MOVIE CAME OUT IN 1999!!! AMAZON IS DOING IT!!!!!
[deep breath]
Not much is known right now, but the release date is expected to be sometime next year.
And NOW FOR A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE

So a parody of a parody of a show that Jumped the Shark?
That deafening sound you hear is the mantle of Planet Earth being breached under the crust, below the bottom of the empty barrel of ideas in Hollywierd.
Geez.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

Sir Lee's meta take of a show about the making of a show could be interesting, but I dunno if there is a series there. But then, I don't know if there is a series about actors living out our dreams either. And going straight to Galaxy Quest the show removes all the cute and funny bits of the movie. Eh, time will tell I guess, but I have to say I don't have high hopes.

In this instance, it probably sounds a lot like this:

It MIGHT feature Brandon and the other nerds, as Brandon was a major character in IDW's Galaxy Quest comic series a while back, and apparently the actor was willing in the past to reprise his role should the original movie get a sequel. As for Rickman...in the comics it was explained that he negotiated his way out of the series to go back to stage acting, and that his character was killed off in the first season of the revival TV show in-universe. They're probably going to also add to this by saying that his character died tragically, and that the other characters miss him or something in the pilot for the real-world TV show.
I'm really excited, as this is a fresh opportunity to have a show that is a parody of a sci fi TV show that doesn't take place in the fictional universe of the show depicted within that world's show as the parody of our real world science fiction TV Show, whose fans accept the parody movie that spawned this new TV show as a canon movie in the place of a movie we shall not speak of. Or, you could argue that those fans accept this movie as a replacement for the last four movies.
Confused???
