  • I... I'm worried. I'm scared.

It doesn't even affect me directly, but I can imagine how bad it might get for those who are.

All I can do is share the news and hope things change for the best.

  • This is what we call "An endurance test." It's in for the long haul ride now.

That's all I can say. Keep the faith, and don't give up hope.

  • Well, I'm sure that if he tries to push this through, the ACLU and other groups will keep it tied up in the courts until after the idiot is out of office ( hopefully sooner than later).

  • I guess all you can hope for is that the Trump predidancy is the last stand of the Christian right, the thing that future generations of Americans will look back on and say what the fuck where they thinking!

The most frutstrating thing for me as an osider to this is that Its so obvious that Trump is a man with no convicitons. He doesn't actually care about gender identity issue, or any other issues, he just says and does whatever he thinks his support base will applaude with no regard for the consequences.

I mean the beauty pagent he runs has allowed transgender entrents since 2012. He tweeted about how he would protect Trans rights during his election campaign. Then he realises that most of his supporters are ultra conservative Christian zealots, and he adapted his stance. The thing is that he will drop the same groups that support him today just as quickly if he thinks its in his personal interest to do so.

Hopefully whoever succeds him to the Whitehouse will be able to undo the damage he is doing on a daily basis, though some of it is going to be a hard ask, what with the trade wars he is starting and the international treaties he is pissing on. Thouse could take decades to get back.

  • I'm not going to take a stand one way or the other right here and now, but this issue is part of a delicate balancing act about whose rights have primacy. Hypothetically speaking, does a natural XX girl have more right to privacy in a bathroom or locker room than a transsexual who still has male accoutrements, or simply 'feels' like a girl? The issue cannot be compromised away, because the goals are diametrically opposed. It'd be like planning a family vacation, where one wants to go to Disneyworld, and the other wants to go to Seattle. What's a compromise - Kansas City? The goals cannot be reconciled, so someone is going to end up unhappy.

We don't like the "tyranny of the majority", but we fear anarchy. What I fear will happen here is that the courts will decide this issue without political and social debate decision, and that will lead to more social division, not less. Issues so decided tend to leave deep and very lasting divisions.

Finally, please note that with the separation of powers, the ability of the President - only one man - to radically alter society is very, very. very limited. Bad decisions are only temporary - if they're even allowed to go into effect. The people or the courts will speak, and wrongs will be righted. This nation has survived many bad Presidents, Congresses, and Supreme Court justices. In the immortal words of the Hitch-hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, "Don't Panic".

  • We will have to wait and see. Trump and his Cabinet can't do what they are trying currently. Courts have ruled otherwise, and courts rule on what the laws mean.

  • Seems to me that most of this nonsense boils down to racist sexist idiots getting bent out of shape about the idea of sharing their bathrooms with black people the opposite sex. Maybe it's time to stop being fucking idiots and desegregate. Segregated bathrooms do not help society in any way. They only imply to women that men are rapists they need to avoid while implying to men that women are vulnerable targets ripe for the picking.

  • To be fair, EE... if there is ANY political discussion that we should give some leeway, its this one. I mean, in all seriousness... it could have a direct impact on the legality of the site (content and operation).

I'm actually seriously contemplating coming out... just to give additional weight to my support and to give conservative friends and family more of a wake up call. Stop taking the abuse in silence and hiding behind my mask.. make them do it to my face if they're going to keep down that path.

But yes, Polk... I've had a number of sleepless nights lately, and I'm not even transitioning... or openly out, for that matter.

Fate guard you and grant you a Light to brighten your Way.
