  • After the financial, critical, and commercial disaster that was the 2016 Ghostbusters movie, it appears the son of the original director of the first two films has decided to make a direct sequel to the second movie.

While a few members of the 2016 cast have said that the new movie is abhorrent, I'm actually looking forward to it. The problem with the 2016 movie was that...well...it was shit. The jokes were unfunny, the writing poor, and while the actresses in the lead roles did their best with what they were given, the movie was a complete and utter flop. So, with the surviving members of the original cast set to make a reappearance (willingly this time), and with the movie being done as a tribute to the originals as well as a direct sequel (rather than a reboot), I'm moderately excited. Although, I'm a little dubious. This might end up like Dredd, where a previous movie instalment that was a complete joke actually marred the success of a great movie that simply shared the same source material. The other fans are certainly hyped. More so than we were for 2016 Ghostbusters mind you.

  • I did hear they were going to try and pretend G3 never hapenned.
Can't blame them, it was terrible.

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

  • I'm sure the likelihood is low, but should I hold out hope for a main cast that channels the vibe of the Extreme Ghostbusters?

It was very much an "inclusion" type of reboot series you saw so much of in the 1990s, but the characters actually had real depth to them. They weren't token stereotypes or cardboard cutouts. Some of the character arcs were so well done, I actually still remember them. Extreme Ghostbusters was a nuanced story with some remarkably mature plot threads.

The original Ghostbusters is a semi-raunchy, comedy horror. It's why it worked. Ghostbusters 2...didn't really work all that well either.

  • Maybe I'm weird or have low standards or something, but I was entertained by the 2016 movie.

@Katssun: Hell yeah. Extreme Ghostbusters was outstanding.
