  • Well, it looks like this is goodbye folks.

Ok, that was a bit of a dramatic opening sentence, and more than a little bit incorrect. Let me elaborate.

I'm taking a extended hiatus, and I don't know when I'll be back. It might be next week, it might be in two months, it might be five years. But I'm going through a lot personally right now, and it's kinda getting hard to study for my exams, deal with the lack of sleep caused by my recent injury (I'm sure Elrod can sympathies with that- although I suspect that it should typically be the other way around, seeing as I only broke my leg, and he had to get surgery to fix a leg. Yeah. I think I'll drop this point now...), and also deal with a few other things.

I can tell you a bit of what's going on right now. I've been fired from the AFCR. Well, technically I was there on a payed internship, so it's not really a "firing" as per se, but rather a end to the hours of experience I had to get there. Hell, I was lucky to get payed during that internship, and only because the head of the Sydney Uni Engineering Faculty put in good word for me. I'm now without one of my two main sources of money, and due to my recent string of bad luck derailing my ability to attend work, I'm now looking for a job to continue paying off my student loan.

My leg's mostly healed, and I'm now limping around with crutches under my arms, but I'm also getting a bunch of sleepless nights due to the lack of pain meds. I've been back to the doctors, and they've stated that the pain is normal. I refrained from asking them if they knew from experience, or from a textbook. That would be rude.

Then there's the mountain of catch-up coursework I need to get done. Thankfully I'm not short on time for my degree, and I put it on pause while I was dealing with the issues I had two years ago, but there's still stuff to be done, and I'm having to scramble to catch up.

My point is that...well...I'm sure my recent behaviour hasn't earned me any friends around here. So I'm not expecting a warm send off. But I just want to say that the last couple of years have been great. I'm glad to have been a part of this community, albiet the one with the most negative reputation score (a achievement that I hope never to repeat elsewhere), and I hope that I can return at some point in the future, whether it's a few weeks, or a few years.

I'll try and check in occasionally, but as far as I can tell, I won't be back for a while. Maybe things may settle down. Hell if I know. So o7 everyone. To quote both Cowboy Bebop, and the founder of 4chan: See you later, space cowboy.

    Minh.

Getting your body healed up enough to work by the time you've completed the requirements for your field, takes precedence over most other things. Working on better coping strategies for when you're feeling blocked and frustrated in one part of your life or another is also very important.

None of that happens over-night except in fiction. Let it take the time it takes.

  • Good luck, Minh. While at times you have been, shall we say, overly opinionated and that led to some friction, you have a quality that kept that trait from becoming toxic, and as a result I'm sure that you will be well received back when your hiatus ends:
You accept criticism, and appears to make a genuine effort to improve. That's more than I can say for... well, not really anybody currently in the community, but quite a lot of people. The CrazyMinh who is leaving now is a better person than the CrazyMinh of a few months ago, and I expect that the CrazyMinh who will eventually come back will be better yet.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.
