As I was sitting around, teleworking and momentarily bored to tears because the remote panel was taking a bio break, I had an inspiration. A new reality game show:
American Rednecks vs. the World
Nations send their most 'redneck' crew to compete with a hand-picked group of American rednecks, all near-picks on the Darwin Awards.
Who makes the best rednecks? Will the US prevail?
(Britain possibly stands the best chance with contestants from their "Upper-middle-class Twit of the Year" competition.)

What's the competition format?
Who makes the best raccoon roulade? How many different types of trucks is your fully operational truck made out of? A completely normal marksmanship competition? Caravan/camper relay? Anvil Shooting ?
Does it all culminate in the "Hold My Beer" Elimination Challenge (Sponsored by Curad BloodStop).

No, the format would be, in the style of the 'Upper-Class Twit' competition, a series of rigorous, life-threatening, utterly moronic challenges culled from Darwin Awards reports such as 'Bear Cub Cuddling' and 'High Powerline Walking', and 'Gunpowder Keg with Kit Fuse Relay'. Thus, in the spirit of the Darwin Awards, improving the lives and bloodlines of not only the good ol' US of A, but the WORLD.

I know a few people I'd like to nominate for the "Install a roof-top TV antenna in the rain" category.

In the "build stuff with what's on hand", Red-Green would be a tough competitor IF duct tape was on the list of supplies on hand...

Oh god, I think our very own Aussie bogans would be at the top of the list. Especially some of the dumbass stuff I've seen people over here do. Last week, I saw three teenagers attempting to climb up a telegraph pole, and onto the live power lines.

Which raises the question: What's the Russian version of a Redneck? Or Indian? or Brazilian?

The show would be even better with a fight to the death. "Our rednecks are better than yours!" and it would be sponsored by Brawndo

Tempting, but you're missing the entire point of this- they have to do it to THEMSELVESmarie7342231 wrote: The show would be even better with a fight to the death. "Our rednecks are better than yours!" and it would be sponsored by Brawndo

I don't think there's an exact equivalent to "redneck" in Brazilian popular usage. There are rural people, there are cultural conservatives, there are bigots and racists, there are "ignorant and proud of it" people (like, I'm sad to say, our current president -- no, the lack of capitalization is not a typo, he doesn't deserve it) -- but not a clear demographic that sums up all of those traits.
Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

It is not my intention to offend, and I did find many of the comments funny. However.
For me, this is a bit of a trigger subject as I grew up in redneck country, and some of my relatives certainly fit many of the qualifications. It's fine for Jeff Foxworthy, and rednecks in general, to make redneck jokes, but I have the same reaction to non-rednecks making these sort of comments as I'm sure an African American has to white people telling 'colored' jokes.
The origin of the term came from people who earned their living working outside. Farmers and the like. Good hard-working people who put bread on your table. It is not a generic term for inbred-yokel
Sorry. Please continue.

My grandmother preferred the word "hillbilly", as opposed to "mountain folk", like folks from other states might think.
Ironic that a distant part of my extended family are still living in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
