  • I've been a bit tied up doing a project for a charity auction. It's been a real haul - I burned out the motor to my table saw in the midst of working (it's over 32 years old and has seen better days), so that was a setback. This morning, I took the project to the auction. Now I'm done with that serious distraction. Of course, my hands are very, very stiff from all the handwork I had to do, and I have a few cuts and scrapes and such to heal (like any woodworking or metalworking project, I guess. Or working on cars. Busted knuckles are a way of life for me, I guess.)

Oh, and early in the project work, I whacked my left elbow on a cabinet as I was maneuvering around some oak pieces. Hard. Right on the bone. Now it hurts like hell if I bump it even lightly. Been a while, so if it turns out to be broken, it's not likely they could do anything anyway.

Anyway, now I can get back to Whateley. Got Fight or Flight to finish, a couple of Gen 2 Laura stories, an Elle tale, more Shine, a couple of Charge Vignettes, and of course more Kayda and Danny. We still don't know how Danny found Shine and got rip-snorting drunk, do we? Nor which of his prospective girlfriends he's been 'cozy' with. So I have plenty to do, and now I have time. So y'all can speculate away about the various stories. What is yet to be resolved? What might be happening? What stories will revolve around Laura? What's Elle going to be up to?

These questions and more will be answered, in the next few episodes of "As the Whateley Turns" :roflmao:

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

Well if you are just doing wood a good upgrade for a tablesaw is a Saw Stop if you can afford it, blades are cheaper than lost fingers, and if you touch the blade while its running it will trip a capacitance sensor and sacrifice the blade and a replaceable break for your finger.

  • I had a 34-year-old Shopsmith from way back when I had no room. It was usable for small projects, but I hated (HATED) changing its functions. At times, rather than swap from table-saw to band-saw for one cut and then back, I made some cuts that were a little less than safe. Now I've got a regular table saw and don't have that tool-changey bullshit. (I wish I had time and room for a big Delta professional saw, but I don't do big things that would need that.)

The project raised several hundred dollars for the charity. I'm happy. It got more than I hoped. Now that the project is over.I have time again.

  • Also have a look at this project, maslowcnc.com/

It compares relatively favourably with the Shopbot's, which tend towards the $25k+ pricetag. The Maslow doesn't have the full facilities that a Shopbot does, and it is way slower, but it's only $500 for the base kit. :D

Stuff like this is why i like reading about the Workshop Crew, and Ayla's approach towards business.

The technology to build a fairer world already exists. We just need to distribute it properly. :D

  • Murphy strikes again. All the sawdust and two fronts have gotten my sinuses fully inflamed, and then by getting very very tired working on the project, I've now gotten a sinus infection.

    Yuck.
