  • The first episode of RWBY Vol. 7 has dropped for Rooster Teeth First subscribers on the Rooster Teeth website. Unless they've decided to go fully premium, it should be available for non-paying patrons within a week of the initial upload.

I'm really hoping that this time we don't get a entire volume of filler, like in the previous season. I mean, the events of that particular vol could have been condensed into maybe half a season at the most, but they spent the entire season getting to one place, and then getting barely anything done. It started off well with the train bit, then they spend a third of the volume wandering the wilderness, and then spent around half the rest of the volume dicking around in that San Francisco-expy town. Then they fought a giant robot, fought alongside the giant robot for a bit, and then just moved onto Atlas.

The issue that RWBY seems to have been having since Monty Oum died is that they've had a lot of filler, and not much actual story. My theory is that the notes Monty left had a large amount of the real story in them, and to try and stretch out the runtime of the show as much as possible, they've extended it, diluted sections, and stretched out the length of the content he left them. So, we get volumes that are essentially composed of a whole lotta nothing, and some minor plot developments strung out amongst multiple seasons.

Unfortunately for them, this has made the ending for the show rather apparent, since I don't see any other way it can conceivably end at this point in time. But that's a topic for another day. Has anyone seen the first episode yet?

IMHO Vol 6 was anything but filler, with the character development that happened ESPECIALLY for Ruby, Yang and Blake, vol 5 maybe, but having seen vol 7 ep 1, you are in for a treat.

Also we don't know how it would have been without Monty, but its not like Miles and Kerry aren't capable of writing themselves, RWBY was always a joint effort between them, and while a lot of the concept was Monty, looking back at the extra features where they talk about it, Monty left a lot of the writing to Miles and Kerry because that wasn't his best skillset, it was a joint effort and he lead when he was still there, but dont just dont try to push it not perfectly matching your tastes with it not being Monty, because we dont know what it would have been and the people who knew him best and his vision the best are the ones writing the show.
