  • I want to say Thank you to the writers on this site, cable and micro scene dabblers alike, for putting themselves out there with their work. I think I'd be a little less saner if I didn't have 99% of the Whateley stories saved on my jump drive for off line reading.

    So Thanks.

Sounds nice. I get criticized and my characters torn apart. Good times.

I've had a few weird reactions to Grainne. Making fun of her name, people saying they don't like how I have extra PoVs. Well, I listen, but I'm also on too many meds to be rendered in a mood to take it personnel.

In the music field, this is known as "paying your dues".

The main difference between an amateur and a professional is how they react to making a mistake on-stage.

The first gig where you really blow it, is seen as a rite of passage. :D

At least here you have a sympathetic audience of peers who want you to succeed. :D

Nope, but you are new to writing for the Whateley Universe. That's a bit like saying "I'm a multi-platinum country singer, but everyone is giving me a hard time over my industrial rock album." Give them time to accept that you're actually part of the scene and not trying to impose country music sounds into your industrial or create some unusual mix of the two (or just taking advantage of them as a demographic to sell), and they'll be just as demanding that you write more, faster as they are with the other canon authors. 8P

I wasn't saying that you were an amateur.

And, i hadn't seen your other work on BigCloset. It looks interesting, and i'll add it to my to-read list. :)

I was only talking from my own experiences. I still cringe at some of the early mistakes that i made... :)

Looking forward to more of your work. :D

  • EOF, like a number of the authors, also has numerous works up for sale on Kindle. To most people that means its not possible to be an amateur (Olympic commission rules), you are a professional if you take money for it. Of course, amateur in a less legal/binary sense... is anyone who does a thing for the love of it. In that case, its easy to be both professional (earning money from an art/craft/sport) and still being an amateur... maybe?

  • Based on some of the stuff I have seen for sale on Kindle, that definition of "professional" (as in "takes money for it") has absolutely zero correlation with any actual talent or proficiency at the activity. Which is the long-winded way to say: you can be a pro and still suck at it. Give me a good amateur over a hack pro any day.

"Good" is much harder to define, and I won't pretend to have pinned it down. But by my personal criteria, Enemyoffun is a good writer. Whether they rate as a pro or amateur is something I care a lot less about.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • As someone who's taken a while to get the nerve to put my work out there, thank you to anyone reading it for giving my stuff your time. I'm glad people seem to be enjoying it, and if it helps somebody get through these strange days that have found us then it was worth writing it.
