    • We have become so connected that many will not remember a time when we didn't have it. Needing to go to the bank in person to withdraw cash. To write checks to pay bills. To meet in person or talk over a landline. Now some phone lines require internet as it uses the internet to make calls instead of pots.

    Their luck they may get 1.5m hmm. Oh the horror continues.

    • yeah, actually even the local telco, Telus, uses voip instead of pots.
    so no internet means snail mail and in person communications. ( at least where Telus has their broadband internet service / digital television service they went voip for phone also )

    • not in Stewart, the ridge to the south of town blocks the line of sight needed for sat tv / internet.

    Stewart is located about 2 miles from the southernmost town in the Alaskan Panhandle, situated on the north bank of a river with very high ridge-lines north and south. ( the geography is called Fjords, like in Norway. )

    • Sounds like a good study on people going cold turkey. How will they react during withdrawal? What will the kids learn within the 30 days or more as with their reaction afterwards.

    • naturally, study has to take into consideration this is a remote town of only 500 people. while the internet and constant online communication is prevalent, such a town will have only recently been fully integrated. I bet the local impact will be minimal.
