  • Yesterday I received an email coming from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., warning me that my login might be disabled for logging in from too many IP addresses. I emailed a reply noting that I do not HAVE a static IP address, and that I get one each time I connect to my DSL, and that this should be a pretty common situation, and this is too many ands already, I know. I expressed my unhappiness with the policy and a wish that it be reviewed.

To-day my reply bounced, telling me there was in fact no such email address. So I'm posting here just in case this wasn't from y'all & other folks are getting it too. (I have also changed my password to one I don't use elsewhere, also just in case.)

  • Since the hack this site has been enabled with hieghtened security, they are still getting the balance right between 'normal' usage patterns and 'attacks', people who use the site a lot at various times throughout the day may get caught in some of the automated warnings.

If you know your usage patterns are as described in the email, it's OK. That's fine. These are just warnings.

If it sounds fishy it probably is.

As stated this is due to the old sites being hacked and is a precaution. Also it should be noted in the message that you could not reply to the e-mail as it is an automatic generated message. The number of attempts could be caused at your end for many reasons, logging in and out to check the site consistently. Having a Wi-Fi connection that needs to refresh itself as well as going to other locations while roaming.

When first started it had been noted by many of us before and Kristin had explained it many times before so the reason are buried with in the messages. We understand that it can be of an annoyance and there have been a few people who have been locked out. So for the sake of security it will not be changed.

Logging on too much Go to page 5 for Kristin's replies.

What is - was. What was - is.

  • If you do get blocked send an email to Kristin and she'll unblock you. The more st important thing is to avoid the 'Remember me' box. That always sets it off.

  • Just two days ago someone tried to brute force login on the reader side of the site... by brute force, I mean that someone tried to log in more than 20-ish times in under a minute. The same extension that occasionally gives you a hard time and trips a once a month ban result on a valid user is the one that in under a tenth of a second from the start of that attack, stopped it by locking out the IP address that initiated the attack.

So. Yes, sucks to be the one of the two users whose specific system set up runs up to and every now and then across the line... BUT there are TWO of you. The other 400-ish registered users and the couple thousand others are not impacted at all. I won't be changing those settings to make them any less restrictive because the amount of effort involved in occasionally unlocking the two of you is far less than the effort it will take me to find and clean up attacks.

Fate guard you and grant you a Light to brighten your Way.

  • The protections working that's what matters, took me a while before I realized it was the remember me cousing me to be flagged for repeated logins .
