  • My wonderful child who likes Disney songs, pagan music, jazz, kids songs and even my punk music came home today wanting to show me a wonderful song and dance she learned at school. So I listened thinking it would be a kids song.
    It was Justin Beiber.

I have worked very hard at keeping my daughter away from pop music and R&B, which is just as bad. And now they do this too me.
Fortunately I was able to get her to listen to some less whiny and conceited pop music, and then she went back to Frozen songs. Hopefully I can keep her from becoming a Pop fanatic.

  • I really wish that little -bleep- never was discovered.

  • Depends on how you define "R&B." Little Richard, Carl Perkins, Fats Domino, Ray Charles, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry, Elvis Presley, Nat King Cole, Sam Cooke, Chubby Checker, The Yardbirds, Eric Clapton, The Animals, The Moody Blues and The Blues Brothers have all done music labeled as "Rhythm and Blues" at one time or another.

I really don't recognize the similarities between most of what is currently sold as "R&B" and the names I listed above, so I just ignore them as record companies' marketing tactics which will eventually be forgotten, in the same way I refuse to call a Brazilian subgenre of Miami Bass as "funk", no matter what Brazilian media say, or in the same way I ignore real estate agents attempts to stretch the borders of more "desirable" neighborhoods in order to include whatever they are selling. It all comes to the same thing: attaching a respectable name to crap in order to improve sales.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

I thought we revoked his citizenship? :P

Seriously, the music industry has been hijacked by the marketing department, unless words like 'hip', 'catchy', 'trendy', are used it seems that the big labels go 'meh', we'll call you.

I despair that the bands I like would never get a chance today.

Many people hear voices when no-one is there.
Some are called 'mad' and shut up in rooms where they stare at the walls all day.
Others are called 'writers' and they do pretty much the same thing.

Does that mean you won't take him back when we return him to sender?

Yeah I like the original R&B, at least some of it, the new stuff is crap.

Going to have to work extra hard on keeping my daughter liking good music now. Sigh.

either you keep him, or you keep her.
( remember, she is known for running down the street at 4 am chasing her just stolen car, she was only wearing panties. )

We will not give up Bryan Adams or Gordon Lightfoot.
