  • 14 months after my old boss (the ass-hat retired) sidelined me and tried to screw up my career, I got a new task assignment. It's a biggie, and quite a plum - replacing / modernizing an entire control center for a civil service agency. Not classified, but I'm not blabbing about who it's for. So I feel really good - and a little apprehensive going in - opening-night jitters, I suppose.

Because of the scope and magnitude of the task assignment, however, I had to withdraw from an on-line history course I was taking ( :( ) because one or the other WOULD suffer, and since I'm getting paid for my day job .... So the news is good and bad. Another upside of having to withdraw - I SHOULD have more time to write, which means a BB story and an MAU tale which have been fermenting for years might get written on top of doing Kayda's summer adventures (which include a few TK members for more hilarity and misadventure). So - yeah, y'all should like me having a little more free time.

On top of that, on the advice of my counselor (trying NOT to get depressed over the work situation), I'm staring a ME2.0 program for the year - and it's led to some confusion for those around me.

All in all, it's MOSTLY a good start to the year. But I'm bummed about the class.

  • ME2.0 program? never heard of this.

no backdoors into the center now. that would get you into trouble. :p

  • ME2.0 - it's my own investment in myself so I can bolster a battered self-image. Back on serious exercise (5 weeks already - not like a new year's resolution), better diet (cut a LITTLE of the chocolate out of my day), altered my wardrobe some, radically altered my hair, and said to hell with my razor and am getting woolly. Set aside time every day, regardless, for work on foreign language, and also for reading classics I've neglected over the years. I've been supporting others and neglecting myself for so long that my counselor said it was time to invest in me.

No back-doors. I'm paranoid about computer security.

  • then make sure they get the most secure os we ( humans ) have yet developed, openBSD.

4 exploits in it's default configuration/install since it started up in the 1990s

though it is really best suited for servers, it does come with a gui ( XFCE ) by default and if the ports tree is brought in you can install other options for the gui. ( as in all 15 available for linux I believe. )

oops, my inner geekette is showing.

  • I started the task assignment this week, and I'm damned near giddy! it's everything I was hoping it would be, and more, and the people I'll be working with are nothing short of fantastic. Normally, I dislike travel, but being here to get the job kicked off (most of the time I'll be working remotely) is making me not even think about travel.

I'm ecstatic! Happy! Overjoyed! I wish everyone could feel like I do right now - it feels wonderful after the 14-months of Hell I went through.

  • Yay! Happy everything is going your way, and you are happy. As Domoviye said, you deserve it.

Thank You for story comments appreciated and help me know me they are being read and liked. :-) Note: My story comments can't nor are trying to replace reading the stories, simply my way of enjoying them and letting the authors know I enjoy them.

  • Great to hear! Big transitions are never easy but it sounds like you are the master of it, instead of the other way around.

Looking forward to the new BB & MAU stories too!

    Cheers

  • Once more, Murphy decided to bitch-slap me.
Son coming home from college - F250 4x4 Diesel. Sudden pulling to one side. Had to get towed, shop looked at it - partial teardown says front wheel bearings are gone, and they suspect the hub, too.

    $$$

Lots of dirty words I shouldn't say in front of my daughter. Cursing Murphy. Damn, damn, double-damn.

I need to remember to never get up about anything, because no sooner do I think things are going right than I get smacked with some ugly reality.

  • The real bitch of it is that the money I was going to spend fixing the AC in one car now goes to the truck, so in order to have a driveable car with AC in Houston summer, I have to replace the evaporator myself - which means I have to take the whole damned dash out to access the evaporator. which means 1 1/2 to 2 days of crap labor.

i want to win a lottery for one reason - to buy a new car so I don't have this crap

  • You could move to Canada, up here in Northern Ontario you really don't need any AC.
The mosquitoes may eat you alive however. If the bears don't get you first.

Good luck with the car, fingers crossed that its only a day and a half.

I would rather be able to get up and complain about something then to not wake up with no complaints to give.

To be honest, this really could have been worse.

My brother, his girlfriend, and another friend were returning from taking my eldest brother to college. This would have been Jan 9/10, 1982. On the return trip the radiator of their car burst, they had little cash, and no credit cards, the air temperature was well below zero Fahrenheit and a wind of 20+ MPH. After some hassles they managed to get a hotel room (one my sisters and the girlfriends father went out and paid two other hotels in the same chain). The next day my dad went and got a radiator and drove the 250 miles to where they were and changed the radiator in the cold. A State Police Officer pulled him over, ostensibly for speeding, but really to see what the Hell he was doing out in the cold. The officer didn't give him a ticket, he was going over 70 MPH in a 55 zone, but did tell him to be careful.

So you could have had to go out in horrible weather to get the vehicle.
