  • Let's be blunt with this. We have a TON of chat logs - over a year and a quarter - and some are indexed, some are summarized, and it's a bitch to find things that were on the old Gen 2 reference site that's now lost. So it's dig through chat logs for rebuilding that info. Add to that it takes me considerable time to reformat / clean-up the chat log for posting to the Gen 2 reference site, and it's hitting my time for writing. Gen 1 had 16000+ (yes, sixteen THOUSAND plus) chat logs and e-mails and BBs, and it was a very, very painful process to get up to speed. We need to keep Gen 2 materials organized.

After some discussion, we want to get a secretary - someone who fits the following qualifications:

    a) knows the Whateley universe
    b) has time to put into going through chat logs and creating summaries and indices
    c) is willing to collect, post, and edit material in the Gen 2 reference site
    d) is trustworthy, because you WILL have access to plots, sub-plots, devious ideas, and ALL the gen 2 reference material.
    e) can make a LONG-TERM commitment
    f) BONUS - willing to help edit Gen 2 stories for plot holes, grammar, etc.

If you can't devote a few hours a week to this, please don't even ask.
If you can't keep to a Non-Disclosure Agreement, don't even ask.
If you can't stand knowing plots and seeing partial stories, don't even ask. Most of our stuff is works in progress.

we do a lot on IRC chat, and you'll be expected to listen in and/or get the log post-facto. We do a lot of one-on-one chats on Yahoo Instant Messenger; you'll need to access that.

If you are a fan-fic writer, this will NOT preclude you from continuing to write fan-fic. You'll just need to review the stories to make sure some detail doesn't bleed over.

This is NOT a step toward being a canon author at this time. Don't ask. But you will be considered a canon resource for Gen 2.

So, if you think you want to take on this challenge LONG-TERM, then please send me your - well, resume sounds too formal - list of qualifications. This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or PM through this site. (e-mail is preferred)

  • "IGOR!"

    "Yeth Mathter?"

"Ye GODS! Don't DO that? Don't just appear like that! What happened to those squeaky shoes I told you to wear?"

"I'm wearing them Mathter." With a gentle back and forth sway squeaks were heard from the location of his feet.

With a shake of his head the master dragged his eyes back from the Eternal Darkness of Igor's feet and towards his face. "Never mind that, I need you to find me the backstory of that character we were talking about last week, the one from the begining of this story..."

"Tuethday nightth chat Mathter, it ith the fourth page in."

Igor passed over the pages as the Master gave him an uneasy glance. "Right. Thank you." He flicked through the pages nervously as Igor watched with the tinnyist glint of a smile. "Ah, you can return to what you were doing now," he delicately suggested as Igor watched with all the facination of a vulture observing the death throws of a baby rabbit.

    "I am Mathter."

"Am what?" he demanded throughly confused.

"Doing what I wath doing before Matter."

Fearfully eyeing Igor he coughed nervously. "Ah, quite." He shuffled a bit then smiled bravely. "Well, we've just finished tonight's chat, prehapes you could process the logs for me?" he suggest with a slight quiver in his voice.

"Of courth Mathter." Igor agreed limping to the door silently and pulling it shut behind him.

Fearfully he strode over to the door and suspiciously eyed the lock, firmly latched from the inside again despite all evidence that the door had been open until just then when Igor had left through it. Unable to help himself once more he convulsively checked to make sure the door was locked and closed, rattling it and confirming it could not be opened.

Screeching in terror he jumped back as the door handle was snatched from his hand by the swiftly opening door. "Thome cothfee Mathter. I underthand it will be a long night writing." Igor announced limping in.

"Yes!" He squeaked, coughing a couple of times until finally his voice deepened again. "Just leave it on the desk and carry on."

    "Yeth Masthter."

  • I would be willing, and I can abide for the terms... except that I'm already somewhat over-committed, between the wiki, proofing an (undiclosed) writer's stories and my actual job.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.

  • You know, elrod and I discussed the need for this, and I said "lets just draft a fan"... but I didn't think he'd actually do it....

We've done it before. OtherEric joined canon years ago to do timeline and continuity organization. I've been muttering about having a couple of 'official' canon editors for a while now too... a number of authors use their own recruited/hired editors who are more or less under NDA anyway, they just aren't officially involved at the canon level. Because, lets face it, taking the time to rake through each others work works... but its time that could be spent writing... and we're not always available in that 24 hr period when another author says "crap, I need feedback on this asap so I can keep riding the muse wave"

  • Somehow I doubt my current employer would allow me to drop down to 3-4 days a week on the same pay level :(
Never mind I'm not exactly the most organised person in the known universe - if someone could wave a magic wand and make me super-organised, plus do a deal with my employers, I'd be willing - but in reality, nope :(

Never mind just updating one single page on the Fan Wiki seems to sap inordinate amounts of free time... but when you're dealing with a table that's over 300 rows long and consumes several thousand lines of underlying code...

  • I would be willing, but I would be unable to IRC Chats, I don't have access to YIM, and while I can edit for consistency, dropped words, spelling, and such, my grammars are all dead, so I can't edit for that.

I have a job where I sit on my ass all night, and actually only really have a couple hours worth of work to do (sometimes). I do have commitments that would reduce the amount of time I have in Dec and Jan, some idiots put me in charge of a gaming convention.

As for the NDA, I still haven't told the secrets that Elrod told me about various characters.

  • If you're interested and didn't e-mail me, please do so - I have a 'sample' of minimal-spoiler chat logs that I'd like you to look at to see what you'd do to index and/or summarize the thoughts in one of them. 2 people have already been sent the stuff in e-mails. If you didn't get it, please shoot me an e-mail: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

  • I'd be willing to help, but i'm a little busy with work and OSHW projects.

I may have time available in six months or so.

I'll shout then, if you still need help.

  • The easiest way of doing IRC is to use Mibbit; that's assuming it really is IRC and not some other vendor's off-brand
