  • Rest in Peace.

I don't really have much interest in boxing, though. The closest I come is that one of my favorite books is Santa Olivia, by Jacqueline Carey, which is, in her own words, "post-punk desert urban fantasy about girl’s love and boxing."

  • Age showing here. I remember watching him on TV when it was free. Him and Cosell.

He stood up for his beliefs and gave reason other than spouting off nonsense.

  • aww man another great goes

meet him one fine day during a industry only video gaming convention. He decided to walk out and talk to us guys still waiting in line for our credentials, just to say 'hi'
the crowd loved it and at the time since he was afflicted by Parkinson's we all just let him do all the moving or coming to us. No one 'rushed ' him out of respect. We treated him like he was one us regular guys, who was there to see a convention....simple respect

the only goof I made that day was....I had A painted denim jacket with him on the back and sleeves and it was in the darn CAR! could have got that darn thing signed!

  • He was a smart man in a sport that isn't famous for deep thinkers. He understood that you don't get anywhere by playing the game by other people's rules.

  • Never met him, but I've seen his old fights. I always respected him for taking a stand for his beliefs, and always will.

  • I'm showing my age here... I still remember him changing his name from Cassius Clay! I'm not a fan of the sport of boxing but I don't recall ANYONE calling him anything other than a true sportsman.

In today's sporting society where winning seems to everything and the ones who flout the rules get to the top, for a while at least, he was the example that everyone should have tried to emulate yet too few had his sense of ethics. All sports, not just boxing, have lost one more shining example of what a true SPORTSMAN is.

    May he rest in peace.

    John.
