  • Create Story Beats

A lot of the hopeful writers out there. (myself included) tend to dive into writing with both feet creating from the seat of the pants while writing. With no map.
I've been reading a lot of the self published Amazon Prime free fiction. Some good and some horrid. But one I follow closer mentioned on his facebook page that he had just about finished writing the beats for his next story.

That got me to searching into them. There is a ton of info on writing beats. It's worth looking into

  • The Writing Excuses Podcast talks about planning the beats of your story on a fairly regular basis, and how different genres have different beats. I can't remember an specific episode I'd recommend on the topic, but many of them have good info.

  • I'll go one further and recommend a book that's aptly named. Take Off Your Pants!: Outline Your Books for Faster, Better Writing . It goes into how to write beats and plan your stories
