  • Looking for the right word for a character's emotional state or to describe how they 'say' something? Use the emotion wheel:

Fate guard you and grant you a Light to brighten your Way.

  • What really interested me about this, when I first encountered it, was how it correlates with my action/skill/spell wheel concept for GEO. That the skill or spell variants most associated with certain emotional states are reflected in more aggressive/forward movement while more peaceful, relaxed ones are more contained or restrained... except where this wheel only breaks down into more precise descriptions of those states in relation to other similar states, and thus only expands outward, the GEO action wheels would have full 'circles' at each expansion point... ie, that even an incredibly aggressive move 'forward' to produce a berserker like rage attack, might at the last moment still have some restraint applied to it... ie a mage firestorm effect unleashed only on the enemy's side of the battlefield instead of given free rein to bring fiery death to 'everything' including allies.

Fate guard you and grant you a Light to brighten your Way.

  • Does it bother anyone that with the addition of 'Surprise', these are exactly the Emotions that are the main cast of 'Inside Out'?

Not really. The whole point of Inside Out is that those characters represented your core emotions. So finding another emotional model that places them at the center isn't that surprising. I bet that you can find papers written about this particular emotional model.

  • What I found interesting about 'Inside Out' was that the Core Emotions weren't one-dimensional, that they were allowed to have multiple aspects to them.

While Joy is the obvious hero, she's also the cause of a lot of the problem. She dwells in the past, she neglects Mission Control, and she marginalizes Sadness.

Sadness has the virtue of being self-reflective; she needs to know what her function is, and her discovery of that is the major thrust of the picture.

Anger is remarkably reasonable. He doesn't go looking for reasons to jump into the driver's seat (Riley must not be a rageaholic), and when a reasonable solution presents itself, he steps down with aplomb.

Fear is shown to have both foresight, and ironically, courage. He accepts that some dangers are inevitable, and copes.

Digust is shown as having multiple positive traits: diplomacy, taste, humor, resource and appreciation. What could have been a very obnoxious pest is displayed as being a valuable member of the team. Oh, and I personally like her character design, despite not being that fond of the 1950s 'hostess' look.

  • Does this remind anyone else of a dart board?

Now I really want to use it with an emotionally unstable character, throw a dart that is the emotions s/he gets during this scene.

My dreams take me to far off lands and times of distant past and future. They tell what has been done, what will happen and who I am. They show me things beyond the machinations of any man. Tell me, what are dreams to you?

  • I have a character idea who would find that totally appropriate.

  • So, you obviously have to adjust the sights on your gun.

Don't call me "Shirley." You will surely make me surly.
