    Many of you may be aware that Diane has just finished, over at Twisting the Hellmouth, a retelling of the entire Harry Potter saga, recasting it in terms of a "young James Bond school" universe. Furthermore, she focused on Hermione instead of on Harry, so instead of Hermione and Ron being the apparent sidekicks, Ron and Harry were.

    That brought forth the idea... what about rewriting HP focusing on Ron? Furthermore, to complete the trio, it should be in a different genre than either Magic School or Spy Academy. So... Superhero School:
    * Hermione could be a devisor/gadgeteer, always able to provide data and tools but not always focused on the overall plan.
    * Harry could be a brick, with the tendency to take things head-on but not think long-term;
    * And Ron could be the Batman-style strategist/tactician of the trio, leveraging the talents of the other two.

    Now, of course if this is done as a Whateley fanfic, it would HAVE to be an Alternate Universe, since canonically there are no superhero schools in the UK...
    Alternatively, one could borrow an idea from Phil Foglio (of "Girl Genius" fame) and tell the story as if it was a sort of Whateley school play, using canon Whateley characters as actors in the story. Like in the " Cinderella " adaptation they did...

    The other day I was thinking about throwing into my Reflections fan fic a line about one of the characters reading Diana's Terrawatt stories and wanting to do her own Alex Mack in a different setting, namely the Percy Jackson universe created by Rick Riordan. Which my Muse got batting around and ended up remembering Sir Lee's above quoted challenge. So yeah I am now attempting to rework at least Book 1 of the Potter series into the Demi Gods setting.

    Tentatively I have plans of setting the bulk of the story in New Rome and Camp Jupiter, making Harry and Co Roman Demi Gods and Legacies. Or maybe I may change things up and mix in other pantheons. Haven't quite decided. So if any one has any suggestions I'll be happy to listen.

    I am a caffeine heathen; I prefer the waters of the mountain over the juice of the bean. Keep the Dews coming and no one will be hurt.

  • Not sure if I should mention the old "Harry Potter and the Tent Peg of Homosexuality +5" bit me and Atalanta Pendragonne joked about years ago, after she told me about Anne McCaffrey's brainfart on the subject.

    Oh, well, I guess I just did.

    On an unrelated subject, should I mention naamah_darling's rude awakening story? No, but I will anyway . Don't worry, it's short... mind-scarring, but short. Heck, I'll even throw in red, red ponies , Seanan McGuire's molting wings , and Divine non-con-chan-preg while I'm digging through this old stuff...

    Out, damnéd Spot! Bad Doggy!
