  • This is the first in what I hope will be a series of writing exercises for the fan fiction writers and those wanting to play around with fan fiction creation. This is not a competition. There are no judges and no prizes.

As canon content is currently focused on the time around the Spring 2007 combat finals, I thought that would be a good place to start the writing prompts. Naturally, the best place to start writing about the combat finals is to place your original character right in the thick of things. After waiting a couple weeks for signups (some time around December 15), I will assign the participating characters their combat final partner and scenario.

To participate, please reply to this post with the following information about each character you wish to throw to the tender mercies of Sensi Ito.
    • Bare bones character description (name, build, gender, race, personality)
    • MID
    • Combat or survival track

In addition to the information about your character(s), I would also like to know how many writing prompts you are interested in receiving (up to one per character) and if you are interested in collaborating with another author. If you are interested in collaborating, please let me know via private message if there are other authors you either would or would not like to collaborate with.

As far as final products and feedback on those products are concerned, I likely take an approach similar to the micro-scenes. If you have comments on the writing prompt itself or the process of completing the prompt, this thread is as good a place as any for it.

  • By combat or survival track, do you mean what classes they are taking related to combat/survival?

  • Correct - The reason for the request was this quote from Galatea Debutante

“Brave and stupid aren't selling points,” the Marine replied grimly, then turned his attention to Tansy. “And you! You're on the Escape and Evade track! You've never even been in a combat final that you weren't supposed to run away from!”

I misremembered the name of the track, but the intent of the question is clear enough.

  • So it would be something like this?

    Charon Ashworth
He is thin, of average height, toned only through lack of padding. He appears androgynous, and is slowly becoming identical to his cousin (who is a girl). He is not genetically a girl. That stopped after he fully assimilated the demon that was accompanying his cousin’s astral body (long story). Char is ignorant of his somewhat mixed heritage, and his family is culturally american. Has messy black hair and silver eyes.
He is a big fan of action heroes and chaotic good. He sees himself as the hero in his own life (literally sees himself, through a 3rd person view), or tries to. He is somewhat antisocial, replacing close relationships with vague distant friendliness. He HATES to be upstaged in the task he has chosen. It makes him feel like he’s only the runner-up in a story centered on someone else. He is very loyal to his closest and only friend, who recently joined him in attending Whateley. He isn’t strong-willed per se. Rather, he can get locked into a goal and drive himself to physical and mental exhaustion to achieve it. This is a disorder he refuses to fix, because it is fueled by his dreams and ambitions. Last time it was ‘fixed’ he ended up a dreamless loser for 7 years, and he does not want that again.. Char has a tendency to go to great lengths to improve his image. His worst fear is being seen as the bad guy. Despite these sometimes irrational tendencies, in most situations Char is very competent and methodical.

Codename: Argent (Burnout to his frenemies)
    Ratings:
Clairvoyant 2 (3rd person perspective from limited astral body)
    t-i (personal time dilation)
TK- 2/3c (movement of own body)
    EX-3 (heightened agility, flexibility, memory)
    Martial arts: Highly unconventional
    Warnings:
    Can dodge bullets
    TK/Warp speedster
    unnatural movement patterns
has sharp claws. lack of strength does not prevent him from injuring opponents
Techniques: blitz, evade projectile, instantaneous reaction time
Weakness: low threshold for overuse of powers, normal human weaknesses
    Backup/Team Affiliation: Holy Devil Duo
    combat track
    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
    Mithras Distevar
He is in good shape for someone who isn’t on any sports teams, and is relatively tall for his age. He used to dye his dark hair, but it was purged white by the angel he channels/serves. This same purge left his hair looking like he plugged himself into a socket.
Myth is a hard worker, but not as hard as Char. Nobody works as hard as Char, for good reason. They want to stay out of the hospital. hem. Mithras comes from an old sorcerer/wizard family that split from a Romani community and came to the US ages ago, and built a family Magician’s Mansion on a powerful ley line during the colonial era. They still keep to themselves, and Mithras is the first in his family to attend public school, because his parents are terrible teachers. He is extremely good friends with Char, but he is trying to become more independent and able to function without Char’s help. He has a strong sense of right and wrong according to a moral code (as opposed to Char’s which is based on perceived and outcome-based good). Mithras is forced by his angel to correct the disorder around him, which over time he has internalized. Mithras isn’t as antisocial as Char, but is awkward and slow to catch on sometimes.

    Codename: Immaculate
    Ratings:
    WIZ-5 (angel helps)
    Paladin/Channeler-? (mage sub-trait)
    Martial arts: none
    Warnings:
Can execute memorized complex spells extremely quickly
can be a judgemental jerk who has access to accurate lightning strikes
    Techniques: spell fusion, ritual skip
Weakness: normal human weaknesses, disorganization, strict moral code
    Backup/Team Affiliation: Holy Devil Duo
    Combat track
    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Am I doing this right? Is this too much information? If so, I blame my inability to leave anything entirely unexplained. This is my first time trying to write something (I normally do comics things), aside from the work I'm doing planning out these guys' origins. Which I may or may not end up writing. Anyways, looking forward to trying this prompt. I was thinking one for each character, unless I could somehow do both at the same time.

  • Quorry, your character summaries are more or less what I was looking for. The personality section is a touch longer than what I was looking for, but it shows you have a feel for your characters. Did you want to try to collaborate with another author, or were you wanting to write both prompts solo? While the spring 2007 combat finals involve multiple students working together, the 'unlikely allies' theme means that your established team wouldn't be tossed into the arena together.

One of my goals with this prompt was to give authors a chance to work in a collaborative environment when they might otherwise have not done so. This is the reason for the deadline and tailored prompts, rather than just throwing out a scenario (or scenarios) for authors to work on. I expect the next couple prompts will be more straight forward.

  • I'll collaborate with someone.

    Codename: Wind Rider
    Ratings:
    Energizer: 4 (Wind powers)
Techniques: Wind riding, Wind Blast, Reckless Insanity
    Weakness: normal human weaknesses
    Backup/Team Affiliation: None
    combat track

Meagan Lewis doesn't look her age thanks to being a late bloomer. While she's fourteen, she looks more like a budding eleven year old. This doesn't hold her back though, and has been learning extreme sports since she could walk.
A late comer to Whateley she wants to be a superhero or a daredevil and is looking at combining the two.
She has a specially made costume that with a bit of electricity becomes a wing suit letting her fly with her wind powers at upwards of 180mph, potentially she could go faster but Whateley hasn't let her reach a high enough altitude for her to really cut loose. Without the suit she can fling herself and others through the air at about 80mph for short distances but it's very risky.

  • Domoviye - how many solo and how many collaborative writing prompts are you interested in? Normally I'd ask you to toss up Tink's short profile, but I am familiar enough with her antics that it won't be necessary, at least for the assignment stage. If you happen to end up with a collaborator who doesn't know Tink, I'll let you fill them in.

Give me a bit to think of a character to use and I'll repost him/her here.

With this, two. One with Tink one with Wind Rider.
I figured most people who are interested in this know at least a bit about the crazy fairy, but I have her stuff written down for anyone who's interested, and something more detaild for a confirmed collaborator.

Neo that would be cool. Maybe we can finish something this time. ;) :P

Well excuse me for getting busy with another project that has slightly higher priority than fanfic. You certainly didn't seem to mind when you found out exactly what that was. :P ;)

  • Codename:Tink
    Ratings:
Energizer: 3 (Speedster); PK 2 (3 when on a sugar rush)
GSD: Claws, Night vision, Flight, enhanced musculature
Techniques: FAIRY CLAWS!, FAIRY MAGIC! FAIRY LIGHTNING STRIKE!
Warning: When given sugar her speed and PK increases, and her rationality decreases.
    Weakness: ADHD, Pretty colours, Sugar
Backup/Team Affiliation: Ethereal Beauties Trainiing Team.
    combat track

She's a six inch tall fairy who can lift four hundred pounds, normally flies at 40mph, and loves to have fun. When on sugar she can hit 100mph, lift a lot more, and becomes as rational as a 3 year old who's been given speed.
If you annoy her, she won't beat you up, she'll talk your ear off and appear very stupid. It's a trick, she's just trying to drive you insane. If you anger her, then she gets nasty and nothing is out of bounds.
    Don't make her angry.

  • Why is it when I get the idea of Tink in a Combat Final I get this mental image of the 'dumb-dumb' bullets from Who Framed Roger Rabbit??

I love watching their innocent little faces smiling happily as they trip gaily down the garden path, before finding the pit with the rusty spikes.

  • Tink's "unlikely team mate" gives her lots of sugar and the opponent gets her angry at him.

    insanity ensues.

  • Or the opponent makes sure her partner becomes really cute and colourful. That would be just as bad.

And occasionally Tinks fighting style is a lot like that. Just she'll go through walls, and not slow down to ask where someone went.

  • I'd like to get in on this.

    Code Name: Rapunzel
    Real name: Willow Harris
    Ratings:
Exemplar 2 PK 3 : can only control her hair Healing 3
    Mild GSD/Manifesting ? ; rapid hair growth

    Affiliation:
    Hawthorn Irregulars, Parkour Hooligans

    Weakness:
    Basic Human Weaknesses
The cost of hair care products

    Mixed Combat / Survival Track

Seen the Pixar Rapunzel? Take that girl and throw her in jeans and a t-shirt.
She's not an aggressive girl, but after the Halloween incident her freshman year she added the combat track to her survival track learning. She usually shaves her head in the morning and again at lunch and bed time, as it grows that fast. But for combat finals week she's left it go.

  • Cryptic - Were you wanting a solo prompt or collaborative prompt? If the former, I think I may have the perfect prompt waiting in the proverbial wings.

Domoviye - I was ... inspired by your Tink/Brick Bat Microscene. If the numbers don't work out and you end up doing a solo prompt, I have a prompt that came to mind for them also.

  • Okay, been debating this idea for a while now, but I've decided to go ahead and repost/finish my one fanfic that I submitted on the old site, if only so I can have a couple of characters to interact with all of the fun stuff here in the fanfic section and not confuse people by using my canon characters. So I'll be working on doing a round of editing on that so I can get it reposted (though obviously my canon stuff has the higher priority). But for now I'll go ahead and post the two primary characters here, as possible inclusions for this challenge. Note that these two would be freshman starting in Fall 2007, like Tink, but since this is all fanfic anyways I'm not worried about it that much.

    *****
    Codename: Sairensu ("Sai" for short)
    Ratings: Ex-2/Re-3/En-3
Techniques: Sonic/Kinetic Energy Absorption; Enhanced Strength/Agility; Silent Movement; Advanced Aikido; Parkour
Weaknesses: Effectively Mute; Normal Human Weaknesses
Backup Team/Affiliation: Parkour Hooligans, Poe Cottage
    Track: Combat Track

Bio: Keiko Mizashi has had a very rough year. It's a known fact on campus that her powers make her mute and force her to communicate with sign language, and that for some reason she and her twin brother are rather cold and distant with each other. What isn't known is the exact reason for this strained relationship, namely that the two of them used to be identical twins and both feel that they've been pushed apart by Keiko's change. They don't hate each other, but they are both resentful of the fact that the other won't talk to them about it, which in turn means that neither is willing to start the conversation and see where their once close bond now stands. Keiko in particular is worried that her brother doesn't want anything to do with her anymore, and fears that talking to him about it would only confirm that worry. So she's kept herself busy over her freshman year, adjusting to being a girl (youch), learning a new way of communicating, pushing herself often too hard with her parkour and aikido; all so she doesn't have to think too often about what her manifestation has cost her.

    *****
    Codename: Hardlight
    Ratings: Ex-3/En-4
Techniques: Hardlight Energy Constructs (Barriers and Weapons); Rapid Weapon Changing; Advanced Aikido; Parkour
    Weaknesses: Normal Human Weaknesses
    Backup Team/Affiliation: Dragons, Twain Cottage
    Track: Combat

Bio: Kenji Mizashi has been something of a lone wolf during his first year at Whateley, in contrast to the friendly and gregarious personality that used to be his trademark. The fallout between him and his now-sister Keiko has definitely done a number on him, and he refuses to talk to anyone about it, mostly because he can't bring himself to betray his sister's secret and isn't aware of anyone else on campus who could even sympathize with what he's going through. His regular sparring acquaintances among the Dragons know that something is definitely bugging him, but all he'll tell them is that it's "family issues". He wishes he could bring himself to talk to Keiko and tell her how much he misses his brother, but he knows that would just make what she's going through even harder on her. He even opted to practice his parkour on his own rather than joining the Hooligans once he found out that Keiko was already in the process of joining them. As much as it hurts him, he's keeping his distance to make things easier for her.

    *****
One thing to note is that the original concept for these two involved them reconnecting during their first Combat Final in the fall. That being the case, since we're talking about Spring combat finals here, I can go a couple of different ways with it. One, I could say that they did reconnect in the Fall and that now they're on good terms again, though this will mean some minor personality changes as well, particularly for Kenji. OR I'd be willing to say that they were both Winter or Spring Term arrivals, and that this will be their first combat finals at the school. Going the first route would allow me to split them up and do two separate finals with them easily, but if I go the second route the two really need to end up in the same bout together, either with just the two of them or in a larger group. I'm willing to go either way with them, depending on what you guys would like to see happen (and of course depending on what kind of prompt cprime decides to give me... ;) ).

That said, I'd be interested in doing a collaboration for sure (Dom and I do work pretty well together, just saying  ), though I can work on my own just as well. I'll leave that up to cprime to decide what I end up with.

They don't have to be already established. I know Dom hasn't done anything with Wind Rider yet (unless he's been holding out on me...) even though I've known about her as a character for a little while now since I beta-read some of his stuff. A writing prompt like this is as good a launching point as any for establishing a new character.

I don't think so. I'm planning on adding a character, and I don't have any fanfics written.

I've written about a character like her before, but not in Whateley. I'm using this to get a feeling for the new version, because the original was suffering from PTSD, could create tornadoes that would destroy a city, and toyed with the people who had killed her family in front of her eyes. She was also disabled from having her back snapped by a killer robot, and she had an experimental treatment to save her life. It left her muscles coated in metal, gave her limited regeneration, and if she used her powers could hit like a ton of bricks, but her joints were like springs that made it very hard for her to move. The other characters were desperately tryiing to get her help so that she wouldn't decide to destroy the city in a suicidal rage.
I'm trying for a happy, wannabe superhero now, so this is as good a place to start as any.

  • ShockHawk - No previously established character is required for the writing prompts. As a matter of fact, I think all of the characters (except for Tink) who are being tossed into the prompt are new characters.

Actually the two characters that I put forward, Sairensu/Keiko and Hardlight/Kenji, appeared in the fanfic Painful Divergence that I started posting on the old site, before putting it on the backburner when I joined the G2 project.

  • And here's my character!

Emily Downum is a very small girl, 4'5" and 50 lbs despite being 14 years old. This is partially due to celiacs which went undiscovered until she was 11, but she lost even more weight when she began to manifest. She's very fragile, although her mutation has made her stronger than her weight would suggest. Fortunately, while 50 lbs makes for a very small girl, it makes for a very large eagle. Emily, codenamed Elation (because "Fierce Joy While Flying" was too long to fit on an MID), can shift into the form a Golden Eagle. Golden Eagles only reach about 15 lbs in the wild, and 27 when bred for falconing, so Elation's 50 lbs and 13' wingspan are very large indeed. Her human form has golden brown hair very similar in color to her eagle plumage, and her eyes are yellow brown like eagle eyes as well, although neither is different enough from baseline to attract attention. She can see better than average as a human, but not preternaturally so.

Emily was very shy before her manifestation, but being able to fly and being strong have given her confidence, and she has become fierce, fiesty, and fun loving, especially in eagle form (in human form old habits die hard). She's gotten detention several times for flying high and in plain sight. This hasn't stopped her, but now she's now a little more subtle about her flights, and the school pretends not to see her.

Elation's costume was made by collaborating with Cecilia and a devisor working on "smart" fabrics. It's golden brown, and skintight from ankles to neck, but when she shifts it balloons out to give her privacy, then folds itself into a bundle tied to her leg. She can then press a button on the bundle to make it balloon out again to give her privacy while shifting back. Her other essentials (ID, phone, keys, lockpicks) are kept in a pouch on the other leg. Her mask is a masquerade bird mask , but she can't hold on to it after shifting, so once she shifts, she can't shift back without violating Whateley's no-masks rule.

    Codename: Elation
    Ratings: Shifter - 3tfnwm
    Techniques: Quick change, Swift Strike
    Weaknesses: Normal Human Weaknesses
    Backup Team/Affiliation: None listed

Escape and Evade Track, because "nobody is locking me in a damn cage again."

EDIT: Oh yeah, she has claustrophobia now. It's not noticeable most of the time, but trap her in a space too small to spread her arms (or wings), and she'll start to panic.

  • Arcanist Lupus - Are you looking for a solo prompt or a collaborative prompt? Given that you are going with the Escape/Evade track rather than the combat track, you may end up with a solo prompt as Cryptic elected to do a hybrid track solo.

  • That's a pretty sweet character, Arcanist. Her abilities augment and enhance her personality rather than overpowering it, which is really nice to see, and she's definitely got more of "normal teenager" vibe going on than a lot of characters in WU seem to have, which is also very refreshing. Very nice concept.

Here's a thought...if Arcanist would like to do a collaboration, Elation can get teamed up with someone on the combat track as a kind of crash scenario. Just because a student is on the Escape and Evade track doesn't mean they'll always be able to escape and evade in a given situation, so it might be interesting to see her put on the spot. She'd be at a disadvantage for not being able to just run away, and her teammate would be at a disadvantage because of his/her partner's lack of experience, but they still have to figure out how to make it work. Sounds like a perfect handicapped match to me.

Thanks! Elation was actually developed codename first - the name was stolen from Through Wolf's Eyes , which includes a peregrine falcon* named Elation. But the codename defines her mindset just as much as it does her powers, and everything else was a fairly straightforward extrapolation from there.

*In the back of my mind there's a little voice yelling that Elation's bird shape should be a peregrine falcon like her namesake. I've quashed it repeatedly by picturing a 50 lb falcon falling out of the sky or waddling along the ground.

I'm a little nervous about trying a collaboration - I'm still dipping my toes into this whole "actually putting words on a page" thing, and collaboration sounds harder than solo. But I'd be willing to give it a try. I do kind of want to see Elation in a combat final - I put her in escape and evade because being able to escape is important to her, but I think she'd enjoy the combat track as well.

  • Arcanist, if you want someone who's willing to help out a newbie, I'd be happy to work with you. Both Wind Rider and Teri would mesh well with Elation while not being perfect buddy buddy.
Wind Rider wants the rush of combat, and Teri would be her usual goofball self while still wanting to win, so she'll be talking about Eagle Cavalry charges and similar things until the action starts.

  • This could be the impetus I need to have a fresh go at padding out Rumex - probably not to the extent of her having a full blown journey from origin to Whateley, but perhaps enough to get a handle on her powers, personality and an overview of her journey so she could eventually conceivably be a secondary character in someone else's tale. I'll work on her MID over the day or so, but here's the abstract of her story:
    • Name: Violet Cooper

    • Home: Wyre Piddle, UK (a village in the heart of the main market gardening region of the UK)

    • Appearance: slim, 5'1" tall, 7½ stone [pre-manifestation], pretty by baseline standards, unremarkable by Whateley standards, green eyes... and hair (which is mildly photosynthetic - yes, I know that contravenes biology [since visible hair is normally dead], but then so do most mutations!) Pre-manifestation, she kept her hair in a short bob, but in a concession to her new hair now keeps it to around shoulder height.

    • Manifestion trigger: triggered after being thrown into a clump of nettles (Rumex obtusifolius is the botanical name for the broad-leaved dock, a traditional remedy for nettle stings)

    • Powers: She can sense the needs of plants (both environmental and chemical) and significantly accelerate the growth of herbacious plants (not shrubs/trees, and only as long as sufficient nutrition / water is provided for the growth needs). The former's likely to be classified as ESP-2, the latter possibly some form of warping, but likely to be categorised as a specialised application of magic (since it only appears to affect herbacious plants and nothing else), so WIZ-0.

    • Other mutation-induced changes: the green mildly photosynthetic hair mentioned earlier - nowhere near enough to live off, but being in sunlight gives her a mild energy boost. Her skin's significantly tougher than average (no need to fear Urtica dioica again!), her density is increased (by roughly half, so she now weighs 11¼ stone), she has increased memory retention (nowhere near eidetic though!), speed and stamina - consistent with a high Ex 1.

    • Academic strengths: she's bright (upper sets but not top of the class), with a particular interest in science - pre-manifestation, mainly biology / ecology, but at Whateley also throwing herself into chemistry to learn about fertilisers etc. - especially as she's on a scholarship from an agribusiness (e.g. Bayer).

    • Personality: Amiable, but quite shy/introverted, prefers being on her own, preferably out in nature. She's quite protective over plants and will shout at anyone trampling / disturbing them (that's how she ended up in a clump of nettles in the first place), but isn't the full blown eco-warrior type - she'll happily eat non-organic produce and supermarket meat (although preferring UK reared).

    • Interests: Other than the environment, she's quite the bookworm, although she prefers action/adventure with strong female leads - she definitely does not dream of being a princess waltzing around in ballgowns or keeping a spick and span house, waiting for Mr. Right to come along. Her preferred organisational method is 'pile it up somewhere out of sight'.

    • Combat:She'd be on the combat track, and while plant manipulation would be unlikely to be of any use in combat, she'll have researched plant defences and liaised with the workshop to produce some appropriate holdouts, e.g. balls which inject plant-based toxins (e.g. histamine for baselines, or Solanine for those with high levels of healing / low levels of regen), capsules which release plant-based irritants when detonated. In practice though, she'd mainly provide a distraction to allow time for team members to prepare more effective offenses (e.g. spells, reloading weapons).

    • Costume:For her costume, she'd probably initially wear a generic protective bodysuit with a self-made nettle fibre top and skirt over the top (might as well fully exploit the plant which indirectly led her to Whateley!), but later (as she earned pocket money for helping other students with their plant problems and assisting Whateley's gardeners), she may be able to afford something custom involving a mixture of nettle fibres and other materials from Cecilia Rogers.

As for her Combat Final, I'd definitely prefer to collaborate with someone - I'm good at developing ideas, not so good at fleshing them out into lengthy prose.

As the right side of the brain controls the left side of the body, then only left-handers are in their right mind!

  • All - If you haven't seen it, E. E. Nalley posted an example of what TINCC/TIN2CC does for their character sheets. While I'm not looking for anything as nearly in-depth, I can see it being a useful resource for someone trying to solidify their character in their mind.

mittfh - While not a formal MID, you've given me enough of a picture of the character that I can use it to come up with a pairing. My reason for asking for an MID was because it distills the character down to the essentials.

Domoviye - I'll see what I can do. I see a bit more synergy between Wind rider and Elation than Tink and Elation, but I agree that both seem compatible.

Arcanist Lupus - I'll try to pair you with Domoviye, assuming the numbers work. If you end up with a solo, I'll probably team Elation and Aquerna as they have comparable power sets and the possibilities of some interesting interactions.

Cryptic - Your prompt for Rapunzel has been sent via private message. Since you're going solo, I chose not to wait for the deadline for collaborative prompt signups.

  • Solo Prompt Please.

    Name: Jace Donovan
    Height: 4'4"
    Weight: 62 lbs
    Age: 16
Hair: Short and spikey sandy brown
    Eyes: Bright green
    Build: Short and scrawny
    Race+: Hispanic
    POB: Albuquerque, NM

Personality: Despite his smaller size, Jace doesn't let anything stop him. He's incredibly outgoing, and energetic, and can be a little overwhelming. He gets a little over enthusistic about things, and isn't very good at moderating himself. If he's going to do something, he's going to do it.

He's quick on his feet, and quick to come up with ideas. They do tend to lean towards the unconvintional, but as they usually work for him, Jace sees no reason to change his ways.

Cryptic - As I stated in the first post, there are no judges and no prizes. This also implies no deadlines for a final product. My goal for these prompts is to inspire creativity, not create stress. I'll probably end up releasing the raw prompts in early to mid January so that anyone who is interested can use them as a jumping off point.

  • NeoMagus - suppose Keiko and Kenji were to pass each other in the staging area between matches and something were to happen, throwing things off for the next match. Who (if either) would be more likely to volunteer to help the other in their match?

Hmm...that's difficult to say without knowing the exact circumstances. If I had to make a blind suggestion, I'd say it would most likely happen that Kenji would volunteer to help Keiko, because that's what he's honestly been trying to do up to this point. He's been feeling that for him to be around Keiko would only make things harder for her, so he's been keeping his distance in spite of how much it hurts him to do so. Keiko on the other hand wishes he would talk to her, but feels that he doesn't want anything to do with her, so she's also resentful of him at the same time. The interaction between the two is very nuanced, which is why I'm calling this a blind suggestion.

  • Cprime, I'm half tempted to ask you for a Combat final to use in Kara's story, cause for some reason all the ones i thought of ended up turning into team tactic scenarios.

  • Cryptic - Just drop me a note if you want one. Were you thinking of a combat final in the context of the spring 2007 prompts, or a different (future) combat final?

  • Either Spring of the 07-08 year or the Fall of 08-09 if I have my time line debugged right.

Was actually considering sicking Manticore on Kara for a final the other night.

I haven't received a scenario yet either. I'm assuming cprime is still waiting to see if anyone else still wants to submit a character.

  • Ok - Pairings for the collaborative prompts are as follows:
Elation + Wind Rider - (Arcanist Lupus + Domoviore)
    Tink + Sairensu - (Domoviore + NeoMagus)
    Hardlight + Argent - (NeoMagus + Quarry)
    Immaculate + Rumex - (Quarry + mittfh)

I have picked out the scenarios for each pairing, but I need to finish writing up two of them (Tink + Sairensu and Immaculate + Rumex). I'll be sending out prompts shortly.

My apologies on the delay in wrapping up the collaborative phase. Tuesday (and Thursday) night I have Kung Fu class, and last night I was out and about with my better half. With the holiday season being what it is, free time can be at a premium.

  • The one scenario I've received so far definitely isn't what I was expecting either. Should definitely prove to be an interesting challenge though.

Just note, cprime, I've sent you a PM asking for clarification on a couple of points.

  • Got a question, though I'm not ready to write that part of my story;
Shall the person writing the story give the characters in it their grades or could we do after everyone has submitted the group hands out grades for each character?

  • My initial thinking had been that the author(s) of the story would be responsible for assigning their characters their grades. That said, having the writing collective come together and assign grades as a group to the characters would provide an element of realism that I had not considered.

Ultimately, I will leave the decision up to the writers participating in the prompt. Perhaps the cleanest way of doing this is to include the issuance of the grade as part of the story if that's the route you chose to go. Otherwise, if you want a group consensus grade for a character, once all the stories are in each author can message me with the grades they issued (with any reasoning), and I'll play the part of Gunny/Ito and share them with the character(s).

  • Just as a little something to bump the thread - Quarry and I are working on the planning of our characters' joint venture - currently we're up to 14½ pages (!) - and that just covers character overviews, powers and strategies (we're still discussing the eventual outcome, but during the course of the final, much to Virtue's disappointment, Immaculate's going to get muddy <evil laugh>).

Not admitting anything, but barely suppressed homophobia in the gay dorm is so much more … delightful … then budding bi-sexualality. There's so much more scope for humour.

Well, I say humour, Elrod keeps using a different term.

See people this is why we need a popcorn eating emoticon!

Edit : ahh I think I know where that is going! So Danny won't be ogling Val anymore?

Probably want to move this topic over to Danny's discussion thread before it picks up too much momentum here...

Since my name is Daniel and I was called Danny when I was younger, you can imagine my confusion as I was wondering who Val was and why I'd be in a gay dorm (I've been so busy with projects, my mind isn't quite sure what reality it should be in right now.)

As for going either way... how cute is the person? :cheer:

And we need a good kiss emoticon.

    Stop ogling me.

    Fine. :(
At least I've got about ten hours of footage with you in it to keep me happy. :woohoo:

I didn't realise you had a foot fetish..

    Spell checker.
But I can go with it.
