  • Greetings! I go by Edrea - my usual imagery with this name is an anthropomorphic squirrel / young Jewish mother (I like the aesthetic, mmm tichels, I love headscarves), in varying shades of purple (including the fur). I'll throw up a profile image once I get limbs cooperating well enough to scribble a nice one.
I wandered here from TVTropes, and am currently reading through the Original Timeline in publishing order (I'm up to the cluster of Petra stories at the time of this post). This is a first read-through. Age-wise, I would have been in the graduating class prior to the OT coming in as freshmen.

The character I thus far identify with most closely would be the J-team, for a few reasons. Some of the major things would be sensory stuff (I've apparently managed to overlook some pretty nasty injuries to myself because I couldn't see anything to let me know I was hurt, and I straight up couldn't feel a difference. Someone eventually made a point of having me checked for a couple of things and was sort of like HOW THE HELL DID THIS NOT GET NOTICED? - and we're still finding more of those. I'm also starting to be able to feel things places, and sudden tactile/kinisthetic input makes me sleep like Jade when one of her selves returns from an extended absence.) followed by the... lack of awareness, I guess would be the best phrase, of sexuality - while still knowing it's a thing and trying to do things based on 'I'm told people like this thing.'
Outside of that, personality-wise, I'm not sure who I'd identify with most.

At this point, I think my favourite characters to read are the Outcast Corner.
I also like to cook for people but have enough autoimmune issues that I can't usually taste test things, so the Ayla stories are giving me some ideas of things that should taste good together (and occasionally an 'ooh! I could probably eat that!'), which I rather like.

I'm mostly a... convalescent, I guess, due to the aforementioned injuries. When I have energy to actually do things and have limbs cooperate, I'm an artist, a swimmer, and work with small children. Current favoured medium for art is crayon, and I've been doing children's portraits lately. When I don't have a lot of energy, but still have enough to sit up? Type at people on the internet. I'm told I babble, but it seems to be a common thing for people who can't go out much.

Me with powers? I can see myself as having some level of regen just by the fact my self in this timeline is still alive. Possibly some degree of psychic/power mimic (I'm good at picking up knacks from people if they just show me how they work, but I have to see it), and some receptive empathy/telepathy. (Much to the annoyance of my teachers in high school. Didn't do homework or study or bother to look at the textbook, and then would usually outperform the entire class on the test by enough that they'd curve the score to the one below mine. I never did learn how to study or manage time because homework was always framed as 'so you can learn the material' and not 'so you can practice these particular skills while checking to see if you know the material'.) Any given ability I'd have would be negated by fear. Can't do squat if I'm scared.

If I got to pick powers? That might be tough. Different sets of abilities have different strong/weak points. Probably shifter/power mimic - I can be or do anything if it occurs to me that it's a thing that can be done or if I've seen it done before. Specific accessible powers will depend on situation (or who I mimic at a given point). I'm thinking maybe a caveat like Surprise from the Xanth series - her magical talent is literally anything, but she can only do it an exact way once... so constant use of powers requires getting *very* creative.

Consistent powers in my dreams seem to be levitation/flight and extending it to objects around me, phasing through walls etc., manifesting autonomous allies (fictional characters + their powers; initial aim is whatever I care about, and if they persist past a situation they go live like that character would anyways. Personality/memories persist across manifestations, but don't flow over to me.), a babelfish effect/universal translator (me and those close around me automatically hearing/reading everything in our native language), the occasional power blast, and uncontrollable timestream/dimensional hopping.

  • JG isn't mean. He just has that standard ex-military volume control problem. He's not angry, just... loud. Thinks everything has to be shouted as if talking to 100 raw recruits in a boot camp barracks. But crazy.. yes... definitely crazy. It's a pre-req to be considered for author status around here.

    And welcome!

  • I was going to say, maybe he's just hangry? I've seen that happen. Loud can be a little hard for me to deal with, as I startle very easily, but that's not an issue with text as long as he's not typing in all caps and I'm not using a reader. (I have friends who get very upset when people type in all caps because their readers will parse that as shouting, so their computers start shouting at them.) I have volume control issues myself, though, I'm told. ;) But good to know!

    Thanks for the welcomes! <3
